Furious MLB Betting Picks – Yankees Call On Burnett Against Phillies

Roy Halladay’s arrival was supposed to signal a changing time for the Phillies, who were blasted by the New York Yankees in their interleague series opener. It was a foregone conclusion in the preseason that Halladay was the missing link in Philadelphia, but that hasn’t been the case as the Phillies find themselves third in the NL East behind the Mets and Braves. Things will only get worse if Jaime Moyer can’t dig them out of an early hole.

It’s hard to imagine any 47-year old playing at a nominal level, but when you’re playing against the Yankees on their home turf the baseball betting odds are insurmountable. On the season, Moyer and the Phillies are 6-6 SU when he gets the start.

Against the Yankees, Moyer is 10-9 SU in his 24-year career against the Yankees. He’s allowed a 4.78 ERA over 34 starts and despite being familiar with the club, he hasn’t faced them since 2005 when he was a Mariner.

New York will counter with Halladay’s former mentee, A.J. Burnett who was very strong as the second-man in the rotation, but has shown vulnerabilities in the month of June. He’s piled up two losses recently to Baltimore and Toronto, bringing his season totals to 6-4 SU with a 3.86 ERA over starts.

Still the Yankees’ numbers with Burnett playing at home are remarkable. He’s 3-1 SU at home with an ERA of 2.27. He’s pitched 35.2 innings in Yankees stadium allowing 32 hits, but only surrendering 9 earned runs.

If we thought a rematch of the Phillies and Yankees in another World Series was a given, then we all have some thinking left to do. The season is still very young, but the Yankees are showing a clear pedigree that Philadelphia has no business hanging around.
