Furious MLB Betting Picks – Reeling White Sox Visit Twins For Series Opener
May 11, 2010
After struggling against the Toronto Blue Jays in a 1-3 SU series loss, the Chicago White Sox are carrying little to no momentum as they pack their bags for Minnesota. Minneapolis has been the last place the White Sox have ever wanted to visit. They’re a collective 3-15 SU in their past 18 games in Minnesota, and even though the venue has changed from the Metrodome to Target Field, this is still the same Minnesota Twins team that has given Chicago fits.
After dropping two games to the Baltimore Orioles, the Twins have won the last two games of that series by a collective score of 12-1. The return of Joe Mauer, the home grown hero of the Twins, behind the plate will certainly jolt the Twins in to their winning form. He played designated hitter in his return game since missing eight straight with injury. He went 1-for-3 as the DH.
One of the only pitchers to earn a decision in every start this year is Kevin Slowey, who has a 3.93 ERA and is 4-2 SU in 6 starts. He may have allowed 41 hits in 34.2 innings thus far this season, but he’s only allowed 15 runs. If there’s any pitcher that typifies the “bend but don’t break” principle, it’s Slowey.
In those six starts at the stripe, Slowey has lasted till at least the fifth inning and the Twins have outscored their opponents 29-9 in his four wins. The return of Mauer will take care of things on the field, and at the plate, but Slowey’s appearance at the stripe will steady this club beyond that.
Chicago White Sox (13-19) vs. Minnesota Twins (21-11)
Tuesday, May 11th — Target Field — 8:10pm EST
MLB Betting Lines:
Freddy Garcia – R +1.5 -130 +155 O 9.0 EV
Kevin Slowey – R -1.5 +110 -175 U 9.0 -120
Countering for the White Sox will be Freddy Garcia, the right-handed veteran who isn’t off to his best start. In five starts, Garcia has just one victory under his belt and has allowed 17 runs on 28 hits in just 29 innings. Those aren’t exactly the numbers that you’d hope for.
While Garcia’s pitch count is middle of the road, the efficiency of batters at the plate against him is making short work of that. The White Sox like to ride Garcia to the 6th inning or beyond, which may not be a good idea with Mauer back in the lineup and the Twins ranking 4th in team offense at 5.1 runs per game.
Where To Watch: WCIUS, FSNO, MLB.TV
The combination of Slowey setting up the game for the Twins nicely, coupled with Mauer’s return to the lineup and his usual duties, and backed by the White Sox’s horrific record in Minnesota is taking me in the direction of the home team. Feel free to follow suite (you know, if you want to win some money).
