Furious MLB Betting Picks – Burnett Returns To Toronto, Where He Stinks
April 19, 2011
The Yankees are turning the tables on an what was formerly an MLB betting gold mine by actually hitting the gas pedal in April. Usually us handicappers enjoy throwing the Yankees under the betting bus at this time of the year because they’ve traditionally been a slow starting team, but a quick start has put them at the top of the competitive AL East.
Trailing them are the Toronto Blue Jays who would love to shellac former teammate A.J. Burnett.
That actually might be easier said than done, especially since Burnett is justifying his bewildering $16.5 million salary with a 3-0 SU start at a 4.67 ERA. In 17.1 innings, he’s given up 17 hits and 9 runs against. Why am I licking my chops at this matchup? Mostly because Burnett is 0-3 SU with a brutal 10.13 ERA in his last three starts at the Rogers Centre.
New York Yankees (9-5) vs. Toronto Blue Jays (7-9)
Tuesday, April 19 — Rogers Centre — 7:07pm EST
MLB Betting Lines:
NYY – A.J. Burnett (R) -1.5 +150 / -115 / O 9.0 -115
TOR – Kyle Drabek (R) +1.5 -170 / -105 / U 9.0 -105
Toronto throws youngster Kyle Drabek on the mound to defend their MLB betting fortunes. The Jays have gone 3-0 SU when Drabek gets the start and the kid has only given up 13 hits and 5 runs in 18.2 innings. So far, he’s endearing the suddenly surging Blue Jays faithful who are sensing an opening for the league’s only Canadian franchise since Boston is off to a terrifyingly bad start and Tampa Bay has fallen in to the gutter.
Where to Watch: WWOR, RSN
The Blue Jays have also gone 7-3 SU in their last 10 games at home when playing the Yankees, who may be without Alex Rodriguez to start this game. While Toronto is in the upswing of an obvious rebuilding phase that is starting to show some reasonable results, the Yankees continue to be stubborn about their roster. The Yankees are pulling a strong series win over Texas behind them, going 2-1 SU while outscoring the defending AL Pennant winners 14-12.
That’s far better than what Toronto managed to scrounge together in going 1-3 SU against Boston, while being outscored 10-27. That being said, Toronto’s fans will get to Burnett early as they always do and the Jays themselves will enjoy being back in the saddle of home field. That’s why the Jays are a cagey bet with an underappreciated Drabek on the dirt tonight in MLB betting picks.
