Furious College Basketball Odds Busters – UConn-Georgetown Highlights Big East
February 16, 2011
Austin Freeman nearly gave everyone in the D.C. area a huge scare when he appeared to injure his ankle, but the star of the Georgetown Hoyas is ready to lead his team to a ninth straight victory, and their third over the college basketball odds. Standing in the way are the UConn Huskies who could latch on to Georgetown to pull themselves up in the standings while putting a dent in their Big East rival’s placing.
Georgetown has ripped off a marvelous nine-game winning streak which has included wins over Syracuse and Marquette. They also avoided the pitfalls of playing Seton Hall, St. John’s and Providence as well, building a 7-2 ATS record against the college basketball odds along the way.
Much of that is due to Freeman, who is averaging 18.5 points per game. He’s almost made the Georgetown old schoolers forget that the program is supposed to be a factory for NBA big men. The Hoyas are also a strong team to bet on when travelling. They’re 6-3 ATS when playing on the road this year.

#9 Georgetown Hoyas (20-5) vs. #13 UConn Huskies (19-5)
Wednesday, February 16th — XL Center — 7:00p EST
College Basketball Odds: UConn -2.5
What will inevitably scare people who are accustomed to the Big East college basketball odds when it comes to Georgetown is that they don’t travel well in Connecticut. In fact, they’re just 1-7 SU in their last 8 road games when playing the Huskies.
UConn is also a very stiff 14-2 SU in their last 16 home games and hold a record of 5-4 ATS when playing on their own court this season. Kemba Walker is a big reason for his team’s success, as he scores 22.8 points per game along with 4.5 assists and 1.9 steals. He could very well be the star of tonight’s game if Freeman’s ankle is worse than anticipated.
My biggest problem with betting UConn tonight is that they have been anything but consistent. They lost to Louisville and Syracuse at home and are just 1-4 ATS in their past 5 games which included a blowout loss against St. John’s. They’re getting rightful respect since they have home court advantage tonight, but the smart money is on the college basketball odds of Georgetown in this matchup. I just don’t trust UConn right now, and Georgetown has come up big when it matters most so far this season.

CINCINNATI BEARCATS -1.0 over Louisville Cardinals
I still believe in this Cincinnati team, and though they’ve fallen off the track a bit in the Big East they have a chance at some big redemption by kicking Louisville around on their home court. That’s easier said than done, especially when you consider that the Bearcats are just 2-3 SU and 1-4 ATS in their past 5 games. So why still take their college basketball odds tonight? Because Louisville does not travel well. They’re just 1-4 SU in their last 5 games on the road.
South Florida Bulls +18.0 over #4 PITTSBURGH PANTHERS
By and large the Pittsburgh Panthers aren’t a team that blows the scoreboard lights off. They may have a +15.0 points differential, but that’s attributed more to their commitment to defense. South Florida is a bad basketball team, but losing by that many points is not really Pittsburgh’s style. The Panthers need statement games to play motivated, and beating up a Bulls team that is 8-18 SU this season doesn’t give them enough motivation so take the long odds on the Bulls with this ridiculous spread.
