A week ago, the Mets would have been the last one who anyone would have expected to be labeled the “hottest.” However, that’s exactly what they are, as they’ve won their last five games, all of them over last year’s World Series participants, and their biggest rivals, the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies.

The Phillies series was historically good, as they swept Philadelphia without giving a single run. It was the first time that’s happened to the Phillies since 1983.

And in Friday night’s betting odds, expect the good times to just keep rolling, as the Mets send their ace, Johan Santana to the mound. Santana was one of the guys who started this streak for the Mets, as it was his performance last weekend against the Yankees who set the tone for the entire team. He pitched 7.2 innings, giving up just six hits and one earned run in the win. On the season, Santana already has a 4-2 record.

Offensively, the Mets may not be ripping the cover off the ball, but are getting it done with smart base running and timely hitting, something that’s escaped them in recent years. Leading the way has been the reemergence of leadoff hitter Jose Reyes. After struggling for much of the early season, Reyes is on a roll, with five straight multi-hit games. He went 3-4 with a run scored in Thursday night’s victory over Philadelphia.

Things aren’t going nearly as well in Milwaukee, where the Brew Crew finds themselves already 8.5 games out of first place. Their sole hope however is a strong performance from their best pitcher Friday night.

Milwaukee will send Yovani Gallardo to the bump, a hard throwing 24-year-old, who is also the ace of this staff. Gallardo is 4-2 on the season, but has been a master of the strikeout, as he’s currently ninth in baseball with 66 on the young season.

With Gallardo on the mound, look for the Brewers to extinguish the red hot Mets in Friday night’s betting odds.

We’re not Milwaukee is the better team, just that coming off such a hot streak, it seems natural that New York will have a letdown. And while they might be able to survive a letdown against certain pitchers, Gallardo isn’t one of them. Expect the right hander to pitch late into this game, and seal a victory for his team.

The Mets may be the better team, but the Brewers will be the winners Friday night. Take their money line in your Friday night baseball bet.

Aaron’s Pick: Milwaukee Money Line (-115)
