Air Force comes into this game after back-to-back impressive efforts, one in victory, the other in defeat.

Two weeks ago, the BYU Cougars came to play Air Force as big-time favorites in the free football picks, before the Falcons dispatched them 35-14 in Colorado Springs. They followed that effort up with a good showing in defeat, losing a tough game to No. 7 Oklahoma 27-24. Now they had to Laramie looking to improve to 2-0 in Mountain West play.

Air Force always has been able to run the ball, but so far in 2010 no one has been better than them, literally. They rank No. 1 in the country in rushing offense, averaging 399 yards per game. Their best effort may have come against a great Oklahoma defense last weekend, when they put up 357 yards even in defeat.

Using the triple-option offense, running backs Asher Clark and Jared Tew split carries along with quarterback Tim Jefferson, with Clark and Tew each tallying over 200 yards on the season. Jefferson had his strongest showing on the ground to date last weekend, when he rushed for 96 yards against Oklahoma’s vaunted defense.

But don’t assume that just because of their records that Air Force should automatically be one of your weekend free football picks. Because although they’ve lost two games already this year, Wyoming is battle tested as well.

The Cowboys have lost back-to-back contests to top 10 teams, falling at Texas two weeks ago, and getting crushed by Boise State last weekend. However, it has taught them to be resilient, and how to beat top teams.

Wyoming has gotten strong play from quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels this year, who is much improved as a sophomore, completing over 70 percent of his passes, and tossing for four touchdowns.

Although Air Force is favored, the free football picks that this writer is suggesting is to take Wyoming and the points.

Now Air Force may still win this game, especially considering they’re the better team overall. But at the same time, Wyoming won’t come into this one afraid, especially after the last two weeks, where they hung tough in Austin, TX, and battled maybe the best team in the country in Boise.

Expect Carta-Samuels to make plays with his arm, and this defense- which has seen it all- to come in prepared. Wyoming will not disappoint Saturday.

When looking at the free football picks in this one, there’s only one bet to make, the home underdog, Wyoming getting close to two touchdowns.
