Free Betting Tips Say Ravens, Steelers Matchup Will Be Likely Three-Point Affair

October 2, 2010

The only thing that could make Sunday’s highly-anticipated Week 4 matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field more exciting than it is already expected to be, are the free betting tips that I am going to give up in this article while leading the BetOnline NFL betting brethren to what could be a potentially profitable payday.

Sunday, Oct. 3, 1:00 PM ET
Live from Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, PA
TV: CBS

NFL Betting Odds

Baltimore Ravens +1½ -110
Pittsburgh Steelers -1½ -110
Over 34½  -110
Under 34½ -110

The Steelers have jumped out to a perfect 3-0 SU start without starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and have been a bankroll-boosting selection for pro football bettors as they are one of just two teams (along with Kansas City) in the league that will take an unblemished 3-0 ATS mark into their Week 4 contest.

The Ravens are the top favorites to win the AFC Championship after upgrading their roster in a big way this offseason. Unfortunately, the Ravens are still clearly a work in progress as they continue to gel on offense.  Baltimore sandwiched two wins around a Week 3 loss to Cincinnati but have failed to cover the NFL betting line in each of their last two games.

Here are the key head-to-head trends surrounding this AFC North matchup.

  • Over is 5-0-1 in the last 6 meetings in Pittsburgh.
  • Over is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings.
  • Road team is 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
  • Underdog is 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings.
  • Ravens are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 meetings.

Baltimore Ravens (2-1 SU, 1-2 ATS, 1-2 O/U)

  • Ravens are 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 vs. AFC.
  • Ravens are 1-5 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
  • Ravens are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 vs. AFC North.

The Ravens managed to record a 24-17 win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 3, but pro football gamblers could have used some free betting tips that pointed to a Bengals ATS cover as the Ravens never came close to cashing in as a 12-point home favorite over their division rivals.

Baltimore got 262 passing yards and three touchdown passes from quarterback Joe Flacco but had to score the game’s final 10 points in the fourth quarter to come back from a 17-14 deficit.

Pittsburgh Steelers (3-0 SU, 3-0 ATS, 1-2 O/U)

  • Steelers are 11-4-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
  • Steelers are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 home games.
  • Steelers are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. AFC North.
  • Steelers are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games as a home favorite.

No free betting tips were needed for the Steelers Week 3 matchup at Tampa Bay as Pittsburgh cruised to an emphatic 38-13 win to easily cover the NFL betting line as a 2-point road favorite.

Veteran quarterback Charlie Batch completed 12 of 17 passes for 186 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions while Rashard Mendenhall rushed 19 times for 143 yards with one TD.

Analysis: This contest may be highly-anticipated, but the NFL free betting tips that I have for NFL gamblers surrounding this contest suggest that the final margin of victory for this contest is nearly etched in stone.

Pittsburgh has won four of the last five matchups, including a narrow 23-20 win last December but I really like the Baltimore Ravens to somehow find a way to cover the point spread in the BetOnline Football Sportsbook, in large part because of the fine defense.

DYK Alert!
Did you know that the final margin of victory has been within four points in six of the last seven meetings between these AFC North rivals and has never been less than three points in the last 20 meetings overall?

I know the Steelers are undefeated coming into this contest and seemingly cruised to victory over Tampa Bay last week, but I am here to warn football gamblers that Charlie Batch’s two interceptions last week could very well serve as a precursor as to what they can expect in this contest from the aging quarterback.

Baltimore is allowing just 13.7 points per game this season and I don’t see them giving up very many in this contest while narrowly covering the spread with the outright road win.

The Ravens believe they can reach the Super Bowl after adding Anquan Bolding and T.J. Houshmandzadeh and this matchup will be an excellent barometer of just how good they can become as the regular season moves along.

I will admit that I am very concerned about the play of Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco as he has thrown four TD passes on the season but negated that by tossing five interceptions, including four in their lone loss to Cincinnati.

My free betting tips concerning the Over/Under outcome for this contest strongly suggest an Over outcome as the Over has gone 2-0-1 in the last three matchups and a blistering 6-0-1 in the last seven meetings overall.

The Over/Under total has been listed between 34 and 37 points in seven of the last eight meetings with an O/U total of 43 the last time these rivals met on Dec. 27.

Once again pro football wagering fanatics, my free betting tips for this riveting all-AFC North matchup say play the Ravens to pull off the upset road win while the Over narrowly plays out!
