Monday Night Football Odds: Texans (+5.5) at Colts (-5.5)
Total: 50
The AFC South is up for grabs this season as the Texans and Colts are tied for second at 4-2 SU, following the 5-2 Tennessee Titans. In this even division, the Texans are 3-3 ATS and the Colts are 3-2-1. The Colts haven’t lost at home and the Texans haven’t lost on the road.
One of those clean records is going to be blemished.
The Texans Week 1 victory (as a +1 dog) was a definitive 34-24 home victory. Peyton manning threw for 433 yards and 3TDs (163 yards receiving for Austin Collie), but was shown up by Arian Foster and his 231 yards, 3 TDs.
The Colts run defense is 26th in the league, and the Houston pass defense is dead last. It looks like Foster and Manning will both get a great deal of work if either of these teams wants to exploit a weakness.
If there is any weakness in the Indianapolis passing attack, it comes at TE where the Colts have lost Pro-Bowler Dallas Clark to the IR. Manning is the best QB in the league at finding open men, so this shouldn’t be too big of an issue.
While this should be a great game for fantasy football owners, it should also be great for bettors. Take a look at the spread, trends and total for some more betting analysis.
The high total of 50 is there because both of these teams can score. The OVER has hit in 10 of the last 11 meetings between these two, and I’m definitely leaning to the over in this one.
While the Colts have won 7 of the last 8 matchups, the Texans have covered 3 of the last 4. Also, in the last 10, the OVER has hit 9 times. Expect scores and expect many of them. The punters may as well take the night off.
NFL Betting Tip: Take the Texans to keep this matchup close enough for the cover. They may lose to a last-minute drive to Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis passing attack, but the game will be decided by a field goal, not 5.5 points. Bet the road dog for a cover in an exciting AFC South betting matchup.
