Free Betting Tips – Seattle Should Cover Versus the Sad Niners
December 12, 2010
The art of the Free Betting Tips definitely comes with a price – sometimes you are forced to focus on games that you don’t really care about. Case in point – the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers in Week 14!
Seattle is in the NFC Betting West hunt and the 49ers would love to knock them from their perch and avenge a 31-6 opening day loss in Seattle.

The Seattle Seahawks (pat on the back time!) were my Free Betting Tips upset winner of the NFC West back in August. They have made me look like a genius at times, but they have also made me look like a complete no-mind at others. The Hawks road woes are well documented but their play in the last game has given their fans some reason for optimism.
Seattle lost four of five games before manhandling the Carolina Panthers last week. The running game finally showed up and gave the passing offense some much needed support. Marshawn Lynch ran for 81 yards and three touchdowns while the combined rushers for Seattle gained an impressive 161 yards. The running game is still ranked 30th in the NFL (84.83 yards per game) thanks to a combined 284 yards rushing in the five games prior to Week 13.
The running game needed to step up – Matt Hasselbeck and the 17th ranked passing game lost Mike Williams and Ben Obomanu to injury in Week 13 – they should return this week which is a huge relief.
Seattle’s defense has been typically bad – 30th against the pass (268.08 yards per game) and the run defense is ranked 21st (121.25 yards per game). They have shown flashes of decent play but have been bad overall this season. With a rusty Alex Smith back in the mix and no running game to speak of, they may be a surprise this weekend.
The San Francisco 49ers are a mess! If Mike Singletary is listening, my Online Betting Tips would be to stick with Troy Smith! Ya – I thought so – he isn’t listening. The 49ers will roll with Alex Smith at quarterback this week after a month off due to a bad shoulder. The truth is that it doesn’t matter who is at the helm of the 22nd ranked passing game, without a solid running game, the Niners are dead in the water.
Frank Gore is gone and replacement Brian Westbrook has rushed for just 30 yards on 32 carries in Gore’s absence. The strength of San Francisco has been the running game that has fallen from a top 10 NFL offense to 15th (109.67 yards per game) in Gore’s absence.
San Francisco’s defense is a middle of the road group but their numbers look a whole lot worse because the offense has been unable to stay on the field. They are 18th against the pass (223.17 yards per game) and 10th against the run (101.42 yards per game:
Free Betting Tips Outlook:
The Seattle Seahawks are 2-4 SU and ATS in their last six games and are 3-12 SU and ATS in their last 15 on the road. However, Seattle is 11-4 SU in their last 15 games against San Francisco and 5-2 SU in their last seven trips to Candlestick Park.
The San Francisco 49ers are 4-8 SU in their last 12 games and are 2-4 ATS in their last six. They are 12-5 SU in their last 17 games at home but are 2-3-1 ATS in their last six at home versus Seattle.
The San Francisco 49ers are a desperate club – how else do you explain their turning back to Alex Smith. Without a running game, the Niners will have a hard time maintaining possession, moving the chains and getting in any sort of rhythm. I usually don’t recommend betting on the Hawks when they are on the road but in this case, they should at least cover. I actually like them to win outright on the road this weekend.
Free Betting Tips Pick: Seattle Seahawks +5 ½
