The new #1 in the nation, according to both the AP Poll and the coaches’ poll are the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Buckeyes to cover on March 1 is also one of my free online betting picks for tonight.

Ohio State faces a Nittany Lions squad that has been very good against the spread versus top notch competition this season. But the Buckeyes appear to be back on track after suffering losses to Wisconsin and Purdue straight up last month. I don’t see how the Lions stick with Ohio State on Tuesday night.

The trends say that both Ohio State and Penn State could be one of the free betting picks for tonight, but that’s not what the stats, or most hoops handicappers, are saying. 70% of hoops handicappers are backing the Buckeyes in this matchup. That’s 7 out of 10 or, to be more precise, 70 out of 100.

It’s tough for me to go against my peers in this game considering the stats. Ohio State has been incredibly efficient in their last two games against teams similar to Penn State, Illinois and Indiana. The Buckeyes shot 53% from the field and 46.7% from behind the three-point line in an 89 to 70 victory on Feb. 22. Then, on Feb. 27, Ohio State shot 49% from the field in an 82 to 61 victory over Indiana.

Now, Ohio State plays a team that allows 63.3 points and 43.9% from the field on average per game. The Nittany Lions have a decent defense, but if they’re allowing 44% from the field against teams like Iowa, what are they going to allow the Buckeyes to do on Tuesday night? Sure, Penn State lost by only 3 points, 66 to 69, the last time these two teams met, but the Ohio State team on Tuesday night is a much more cohesive unit than the one that Penn State played against on Jan. 15.

It’s obvious that Ohio State should simply outplay the Penn State Nittany Lions on March 1. Is there any doubt that the Buckeyes are one of the better free betting picks to hand out on Tuesday night?

I don’t think so. One other thing I need to add to the conversation is the fact that Ohio State is giving up only 6 ½ points in this contest. That’s not a lot considering the talent level regarding these two squads.

I’m backing the Buckeyes to blow out the Penn State Nittany Lions on Tuesday night. Ohio State is simply the better team and should continue the roll that they’ve been on since the Purdue loss.
