Football Picks: Hurt ‘Hawks Limp into Indy

October 4, 2009

The Indianapolis Colts have looked impressive in the first 3 games of the season and will try to remain undefeated as they host the 10 point underdog Seattle Seahawks at 1:00 PM ET at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Colts have the best passing offense in the league recording 948 years so far. Peyton Manning has thrown seven TDs with two interceptions and has only been sacked two times.

Manning’s two favorite targets are WR Reggie Wayne who leads the NFL in receiving yards and Dallas Clark who guides all TEs also in receiving yards.

Indy success is not only attached to their offense.  Their new defense scheme is paying off as they seem more aggressive attacking the QB, they have recorded 7 sacks and forcing 6 interceptions so far in the season. The downside for the Colts D is that DL Dwight Freeney is expected to miss Sunday’s game with a quadricep injury.

Freeney’s absence will open some holes for the Seahawks running attack with Julius Jones as he looks to produce a third solid week in this season. Jones led the team with 19 carries for 98 yards during a Week 3 loss to the Bears. Now he will face a Colts run defense that ranks 21st in the league.

Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck is "very doubtful" to return Sunday, so it could be Seneca Wallace second start of the year as he completed 26 of 44 passes for 261 yards last week.

The Seahawks haven’t won against an AFC South team since 2005 and it will be the first time Edgerrin James will face his old teammates since he left the Colts in 2005.

NFL Betting Odds:

Seattle Seahawks +10 -110
Indianapolis Colts -10 -110
O /U 44 -110

My pick: the Colts will cover the spread. Under.
