Football Pick is Nevada to crush UNLV

October 2, 2010

The lights of Las Vegas will be shining on this late night showdown for state bragging rights.

The winner of this contest takes possession of the Fremont Cannon, the biggest trophy in college football betting.

Last year the Nevada Wolf Pack delivered an easy college football pick winner as they fired the cannon at UNLV while piling up 773 total yards in a 63-28 blowout.

NCAA Football Odds

Nevada Wolf Pack (-20.5) -110

UNLV Rebels (+20.5) –110

Over/Under 62.5

First year UNLV coach Bobby Hauck picked up his first win at UNLV last week. Hauck held nothing back as his players took out some frustration against the lowly Lobos in a 45-10 Rebels route over New Mexico for an easy college football pick winner.

Now UNLV (1-3) will have to score plenty again to keep up with Nevada (4-0) and the Wolf Pack’s explosive offense. UNLV has a few offensive weapons at wide receiver with small-stature Michael Johnson and big target Phillip Payne capable of finding lanes in the spotty Nevada secondary.

Nevada embarrassed UNLV last year running for 559 yards and over 10 yards per rush while piling up 773 yards total offense. Wolf Pack senior quarterback Colin Kaepernick runs the pistol offense to precision, as he’s a much-improved passer to go with his big strides running the football.

He gives the Nevada rush attack a unique and feared option to compliment All-WAC senior running back Vai Taua. The ‘Pistol’ offense is difficult to prepare for, and the Wolf Pack tore apart a solid California defense for nearly 500 yards total offense and 7.6 yards per play in their decisive 52-31 college football pick winner.

Nevada then traveled to Provo last week and easily dispatched the Cougars in a difficult environment 27-13 as Nevada put it on cruise control after building a 24-10 half time lead. The Wolf Pack still piled up 435 yards with 306 coming before the break.

So while the line is inflated from what would have been closer to 13 in Week 1, Nevada has earned the accolades and deserves credit for their accomplishments. Our college football pick believes Nevada can move the ball at will and will hold nothing back against their state rival from the South that usually gets more attention.

After cracking the top-25 this week for the first time in over 60 years, Nevada will be anxious to pile it on a weak and hated opponent. Note that quarterback Colin Kaepernick is no. 3 in the nation in total offense while the Wolf Pack are no. 4 overall averaging 529 yards per game.

NCAA Insider Tip: Nevada head coach Chris Ault is 15-3 ATS as a double-digit favorite including 5-0 away from Reno. Nevada has dominated the series recently, winning and covering the past five meetings while out-scoring UNLV 192-92.

Though inflated, Nevada has earned their position and has the explosive ability to out-perform the linemaker and provide another college football pick winner for their backers in this spot.

My NCAA Football Predictions: Nevada Wolf Pack (-20.5) -110
