Football Odds on Army vs. Tulane Makes the Game a Toss Up
October 9, 2010
The football odds on the Army vs. Tulane game this Saturday on Oct. 9th pretty much makes the game a toss up.
Army is a +1 dog versus the Green Wave this Saturday. Even though the Black Nights are the underdogs, 65% of football handicappers believe that Army will cover the spread. The Black Knights might just be a better team than Tulane even if Tulane gets to take them on in the Louisiana Superdome.

Are the football game odds out of whack? Should Army be favored to beat the Green Wave on Saturday instead of a 1-point dog? Keep reading to find out what I think.

NCAAF Betting Lines
Army Black Knights +1 -110
Tulane Green Wave -1 -110
The football odds prediction trends favor neither team in this game.
- The Army Black Knights are 4 and 10 ATS in their last 14 non-conference games.
- The Army Black Knights are 3 and 7 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS loss.
- The Tulane Green Wave is 1 and 5 ATS in their last 6 games as a favorite.
- The Tulane Green Wave is 7 and 20 ATS versus a team with a winning record.
The trends are obviously meaningless in this game because of the football expert odds that pretty much tell us that these two teams are very close in terms of skills.
But, are they? The Tulane Green Wave is 2 and 2 on the season. They’ve beaten Southeastern Louisiana and, surprisingly, Rutgers. The game against Rutgers was particularly encouraging because Tulane won straight up 17 to 14 as 17-point football odds online dogs.
The main question with the Rutgers victory is whether it had more to do with Tulane playing well or Rutgers playing horribly. I believe the victory had more to do with Rutgers playing like a Pop Warner team than it did with Tulane playing well.
The Green Wave was all out to beat Southeastern Louisiana 27 to 10, but couldn’t hold their own versus Ole Miss in a 13 to 27 loss or against Houston in a 23 to 42 loss. Tulane averages less than 200 yards passing and less than 90 yards per game on the ground. They give up only 26 points per game on average but they only score 20.
Football handicappers have to ask themselves what the football odds against the spread line would be in this game if Rutgers had beaten Tulane by around 10 points in the Green Wave’s last. Army probably would be the road favorites if that had happened.
Army is 3 and 2 on the season. The Black Knights shut out North Texas 24 to 0 as 4 ½ point favorites and then beat Duke 35 to 21 as 6 ½ point dogs. Those were nice victories, but Army’s best performance actually occurred in their last game, a 42 to 35 loss to Temple as 6-point underdogs.
Army didn’t win against the spread versus Temple but they played Temple, one of the best non-BCS teams in the country, very tough. The Owls had a lead over Penn State in their 13 to 22 loss at halftime. The fact that they held a Big Ten team to only 22 points says something about Army because the Black Knights scored 35 against them.
That’s what Army’s game against Tulane will come down to, offense. Army’s offense, which averages close to 270 yards on the grounds, is just better than Tulane’s. The Black Knights’ D is better as well and because of those two factors, Army should easily cover the football odds handicapping spread in the sportsbook.
