Football Odds MNF Pick – San Francisco vs. New Orleans

September 17, 2010

The Saints and 49ers both entered as football odds favorites in week one but the outcomes were drastically different. The Saints came out with a big win over their fellow top NFC contenders in the Vikings while the 49ers lost a shocking decision to the Seahawks.

Can San Francisco redeem themselves with a big Monday Night Football win at home?

The 49ers were listed as a playoff contender and likely division winner early in the year mainly because of the poor division they play in. San Francisco has a good running game behind the bruising former Miami Hurricane Frank Gore but they also have an erratic passing attack.

Alex Smith still has a lot to prove and at this point it’s fair for NFL betting fans to wonder if it will ever happen for the former no.1 pick in the draft. Drew Brees can pass circles around him and the SF defense, if he gets time that is.

That will be the key in this one but the Niners didn’t look good against a much-worse Seahawks passing attack in week one at times. Brees and co. didn’t score a lot against Minnesota but it’s because they got caught in a field position game and played it safe the way they knew they had to in order to get the win.

They won’t need to do that on Monday night against the 49ers as Brees simply has too many weapons.

The tall grass in San Francisco will slow the offense down a bit but eventually the Saints will break through and roll in this one; the spread is simply too easily covered by a team that routinely scored 30+ points last season and brings virtually everyone back for another run at the title in 2010.

Football Odds Pick: New Orleans Saints (-5 ½).
