The Chargers went 13-3 in 2009 to win the AFC West for what seems like the umpteenth time in the last decade. San Diego went 8-7-1 ATS a year ago while finishing up the season as one of the best Over teams in the league (10-5-1 O/U).

The Chiefs compiled a dismal 4-12 SU mark in head coach Todd Haley’s first season leading the franchise. Kansas City posted a respectable 7-9 ATS record in 2009 while going 9-5-2 against the O/U Total.

San Diego 411

  • Chargers are 24-10-4 ATS in their last 38 vs. AFC West.
  • Over is 9-1 in Chargers last 10 games in September.

The Chargers went 1-3 against their football game odds this preseason, losing three straight after winning its preseason opener against the lowly Bears. San Diego went 1-2-1 ATS in its tune-up contests while going 2-2 against the Total.

Kansas City 411

  • Chiefs are 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 home games.
  • Chiefs are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games in September.
  • Over is 4-1 in Chiefs last 5 games in September.
  • Under is 4-1 in Chiefs last 5 games in Week 1.
  • Over is 15-5-2 in Chiefs last 22 home games.

The Chiefs lost their first three games of the preseason to fall to 0-7 in tune-up games under Haley before managing to beat the Green Bay Packers 17-13 in its preseason finale.

Kansas City failed to cover their football odds online in three contests, going 0-3-1 ATS and 1-3 against the O/U Total Odds.

Starting quarterback Matt Cassel completed 64.4 percent of his passes in the preseason while throwing three touchdown passes and two picks.

Analysis: The San Diego Chargers have won five straight games against the Chiefs dating back to 2007 but has gone just 4-8-1 against the NFL football odds over their last 13 road dates in the Show-Me State.

Nevertheless, this has got to be one of the easiest picks on the board for Week 1, seeing as how the Chargers absolutely obliterated the Chiefs in both of their regular season matchups a year ago.

San Diego won 37-7 at home on October 25 before laying a 43-14 smackdown on their longtime AFC West rivals just over a month later.

San Diego didn’t look particularly good in the preseason, but their efforts shined in comparison to the lowly Chiefs, who I believe may get head coach Todd Haley fired following just his second year with the franchise if they don’t show some significant improvement.

Cashing in against the football odds should be a snap in this contest as I fully expect the Bolts to lay two huge smackdowns on Kansas City again this season en route to another divisional title.

Play san Diego to easily cover the football game odds here while the final score plays just Under the 45-point O.U total.
