It’s incredibly rare for an NFL team to score 59 points in an exhibition game. Yet, that’s exactly what the Green Bay Packers did in the latter stages of August. The Pack Attack rolled up 59 points against the Indianapolis Colts. Naturally, preseason games don’t count in the standings, but it is nevertheless quite eye-popping for a team to have the wherewithal to register such a feat. Aaron Rodgers is rapidly ascending to the top tier of NFL quarterbacks. His command of coach Mike McCarthy’s offense is substantial. What’s even more encouraging for Green Bay is that Rodgers’ attitude appears to be very healthy. The Cal-Berkeley product shows no signs of letting down after his breakthrough campaign last year. Rodgers is not a man who is taking things for granted or assuming that success will fall into his lap. The burning memory of committing the game-deciding turnover in last January’s 51-45 overtime playoff loss to the Arizona Cardinals is serving as a motivating factor for Rodgers and his teammates. They now chase a spot in Super Bowl XLV as they go to the City of Brotherly Love.

Handicapping Football Odds : What The Packers Have To Do To Win

For a team that has a thermonuclear offense, the Packers will obviously need to witness appreciable improvements on the defensive side of the ball. The pass rush and red-zone defensive efficiency must get a lot better for Green Bay Packers this season. As for this game, however, it’s important for Rodgers and his teammates to come out of the blocks strong. Philadelphia does not have the offense which can keep up with Green Bay in a shootout. If Rodgers and friends play a really good game, the Packers will win. It’s that simple. This NFC North contender locates its identity on offense, so in week one against a diminished opponent, the offense must take center stage.

Handicapping Football Odds : What The Eagles Have To Do To Win

Because Donovan McNabb is no longer the starting quarterback and Kevin Kolb is the replacement, Philadelphia has to wonder what it really has this year. The Eagles might witness a breakthrough season from the Houston product who has waited in the wings while McNabb continued to play in Philadelphia. Now that Kolb is the starter, he must quickly grow into the position. Should he be expected to master the moment in week one of his first full NFL season? Hardly. This is a game where the Philadelphia Eagles need to help Kolb, especially with the running game provided by tailback LeSean McCoy. The Eagles, in the post-McNabb era, need to convert third-and-two situations on the ground and be more of a running team. If Philly can’t control the ball or score big, all hope is lost against the Packers’ potent offense.

Football Odds Outlook & Pick

The quarterbacks once again tell the story. Rodgers is an elite performer, while Kolb is entirely unproven. It’s shocking, frankly, that the spread is so small in this game. Take Green Bay with a lot of confidence.

Football Odds Pick: Packers -3
