They have a prolific offense that is already humming after Week 1 and the Jets have a ton of injuries that will only help matters.
The Jets are already without their best linebacker (Calvin Pace) and best lineman (Kris Jenkins). They could also find themselves without safety Brodney Pool again this week and top-flight cornerback Darrelle Revis is still playing his way back into shape.
Tom Brady looked sharp in Week 1 and there’s no reason to think he’ll be otherwise in Week 2. The Jets did hold the Ravens to only 10 points last week but that was mostly because the Ravens self-destructed and coughed up three turnovers.
If the Patriots are a more careful, they’ll outscore the Jets no problem.
Football Odds: What The Jets Will Have To Do To Win
Play some offense.
Say what you want about the Jets defense – it’s banged up, undisciplined, rusty – but they still held a very good Ravens team to just 10 points in the opener. The offense has to get the gears in motion and get back to what made them so successful down the stretch of 2009 and the playoffs.
The Jets need to feed both LaDainian Tomlinson and Shonn Greene a steady dose of carries and they need quarterback Mark Sanchez to connect downfield a couple of times with his weapons. He’s capable of it and he has the confidence to do it, but now they need to execute it.
On defense, they’ll match Darrelle Revis on Randy Moss and hope that he doesn’t need much help. If that’s the case, the rest of the attention can be put towards blitzing Brady and making sure that he’s as uncomfortable as possible.
Football Odds: Outlook & Pick
The Jets offense is absolutely miserable right now. Sanchez is not playing with any confidence and he’s not looking downfield to make any plays. Everything is short and sweet, which isn’t going to work against the high-flying Patriots.
On the flip side, the Jets defense is banged up and while they are still an elite unit, the Patriots will have an easier time of things with Pace, Jenkins and (potentially) Pool out.
Lastly, they remember what happened in the first matchup between the teams early last season and this is a revenge game. They want to make the statement that they are still the team to beat and dropping the Jets to 0-2 and taking a two-game lead will do exactly that.
Football Odds Pick: Patriots -3
