Football Futures Betting – NFL Week 1 Lines

June 16, 2010

The countdown to the 2010 NFL season is on, and we are wasting no time in offering you NFL Week 1 betting lines in our futures section. Bet on NFL point spreads or totals before these lines change.

Here are some highlights of what to expect when the wait is finally over.

In a rematch of the NFC Championship game, the Minnesota Vikings will visit the New Orleans Saints with the home team getting a -4.5 point line and a 52.0 point over.

We still aren’t completely sure if Brett Favre will come back, but if he is signed up for this game, you can be assured that this line will move.

If you think the Vikings will steamroll the defending champions in a rubber match, now’s your chance to get on board before this game kicks off on Thursday, September 9th.

Elsewhere on the board, the Pittsburgh Steelers will host the Atlanta Falcons in what is obviously a pick (PK) with no current spread. There are so many questions about the Steelers. No Ben Roethlisberger. No Willie Parker.

An aging team overall, and a franchise that has been blown asunder by their superstar quarterback’s antics. Will Byron Leftwich be enough to get them over the Falcons, who failed to live up to high expectations last year?

A pair of sweet NFC West matchups also awaits you in the NFL futures. The future of St. Louis has arrived in the form of Sam Bradford and expectations are high.

Do you feel that his mere presence is enough to topple the Arizona Cardinals with Matt Leinart taking up Kurt Warner’s mantle? If you do, that +3.5 line for the Rams against the Cardinals looks damn tasty.

But my pick for the NFC West is already settled on the San Francisco 49ers, who are visiting the Seattle Seahawks as +1.0 point dogs. I hardly ever trust a team with a brand new coach and a brand new quarterback, and Seattle is no exception.

Listen, we know nothing about Charlie Whitehurst and we have tons of metrics on the 49ers, who went 9-4-3 ATS this season. You know where the safe money is and we’re still three months away from these games.

Young quarterbacks will be one of the major stories in the 2010 NFL betting season, and the battle between Aaron Rodgers and Kevin Kolb in Week 1 futures is set at a pick. The youth movement in Philadelphia is picking up solid reviews, but we haven’t seen any tangible evidence that it will be immediately successful.

This seems like a gimme given the Packers solidarity and team chemistry. No fan base will turn on the new look of their franchise faster than Philadelphia.

The pair of Monday Night Football games will be a barn burner when the Baltimore Ravens take on the New York Jets, who are favored by the natural home line of -3.0. Everything about the Jets is promising, and a young defense is waiting to be tested by the new combination of Anquan Boldin and Joe Flacco in Baltimore.

Can the Jets withstand a more balanced offense from the Ravens, or will the Ravens defense falter with another year gone by?

The second game will feature the favorites to win the AFC, the San Diego Chargers as they visit the Kansas City Chiefs as -5.5 point faves. I don’t even know how this happened.

The Chiefs have only beaten the Chargers once since 2006, and last year San Diego outscored Kansas City by 59 points in their two meetings.

As usual, there will be plenty of great games on the board in Week 1 NFL action, and if you’re itching to get in on the action now, the NFL Futures Week 1 sportsbook is where you want to be.

The Locker Room will be here all summer to satisfy all your NFL news, rumors and updates with analytics and break downs that keep you informed on how the NFL betting landscape will be affected by anything that transpires in the NFL.
