Football Betting Upset Alert – Falcons vs Saints

September 26, 2010

The Football Betting game of the day is looking like an AFC South showdown between the Atlanta Falcons and the Defending Super Bowl Champions, New Orleans Saints. Atlanta took a tough Week 1 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and took out their anger on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2.

The Saints have started out the year 2-0 thanks to a bit Week 1 win over Minnesota and last week’s nail biter over the 49ers in San Fran on Monday Night Football.  But both teams know that these divisional games are the most important, so Football Betting fans are in for a real treat on Sunday as this one is shaping up to be a doozy.

Atlanta Falcons vs. New Orleans Saints (Georgia Dome – Atlanta, GA)
Sunday September 26th at 1 PM ET – TV: FOX

The key for Atlanta in this AFC South Football Betting matchup is Michael Turner. He was shut down in Week 1 by a very tough Steelers defence, but got it going against the Cardinals before leaving with a groin strain. He would have been able to come back in but the game was so far out of hand already that they gave him the extra rest to prepare for this game.

The Saints were also having trouble containing Frank Gore so you better believe Atlanta is going to let Turner loose on Sunday. His 75 yards on just nine carries was impressive, but so was Jason Snelling’s 129 yards and 2 touchdowns in Turner’s absence. And now that they know what Snelling can do, expect a double dose of the run from Atlanta, which makes them a very enticing Football Betting Underdog on Sunday.

Football Betting Spread:
Atlanta – PS +3 ½ (-110) ML +165
New Orleans – PS -3 ½ (-110) ML -200
Total – 49 ½

The Falcons’ defence has been playing some very good ball as well, granted, not against anyone close to the calibre of the Saints. But it doesn’t take away from the fact that they are allowing just 180 passing yards per game, and should have some confidence going up against Brees and the rest of the Saints knowing they will be without Reggie Bush, a huge part of their passing offense.

In an offense that has already looked less potent than last year, losing a guy like Bush is a HUGE loss, and another angle for us to make a winning Football Betting wager. Bush has been deadly this year running all kinds of screen plays that were just impossible for linebackers to contend with. Now that he’s out, it will all be in Pierre Thomas, who is far less dynamic in the open field.

Brees still have a solid receiving core, but the Atlanta defence will be able to key in on them more as they don’t have to worry about Reggie coming out of the backfield and burning them for big yards. If Bush was healthy, I may not make this Football Betting Prediction but I think that Atlanta will be able to run the ball down the Saints throat and New Orleans won’t be able to do enough on offense to keep up.

Football Betting Pick: Atlanta +165
