Football Betting Lines – Kentucky vs Florida

September 25, 2010

The Kentucky Wildcats are undefeated in three games this season, but they have lost 23 straight games to the Florida Gators. The odds makers have the Wildcats as touchdown underdogs so the bookmakers think it’s unlikely that the Wildcats losing streak will end Saturday night. Let’s look at the football betting lines on this game and see if the Wildcats can at least cover the spread.

The college football odd makers have set the Gators as -14-point favorites. A straight up bet on the underdogs Wildcats will pay bettors +450 on the moneyline. The game total is set at 50 points.

The Florida Gators have beaten the Wildcats in every game since last losing to Kentucky on November 15, 1986.

This year, the ninth-ranked Gators have been using an opportunistic defense to win games. In three games, the Gators defense has grabbed 10 interceptions. They lead the nation by forcing 12 takeaways in three games.

Aside from the takeaways, the Gators are in the middle of the pack with the offense ranking no higher than 32nd (points scored) in any major category and 16th (points allowed) for the defense.

Wildcats quarterback Mike Hartline has been very good this season. He’s completing 72% of his passes for 680 yards and five touchdowns. Hartline has connected with WR Randall Cobb for 160 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

The Kentucky running game is lead by senior running back Derrick Locke. Locke leads the team with five touchdowns and 372 yards.

On defense, the Wildcats should have a strong day against the Gators. Kentucky ranks fourth in the nation against the pass and 13th in total yards allowed. Gators quarterback John Brantley is still looking for his first 200 yard passing game on the season but I don’t think he gets it against Kentucky.

The sports betting trends for this game show both teams have performed well against the spread. Kentucky is 6-0 ATS in their past six games after gaining 200+ rushing yards in their previous game. They are 6-1 ATS in their past seven games overall.

The Gators are 5-0 ATS in their past 5 versus teams with a winning record and 4-1 ATS in their past 5 games at home.

The Gators will focus on shutting down Derrick Locke to force Mike Hartline to beat them through the air. If the Gators can’t stop the Kentucky run, the streak is over.

I like the Wildcats to keep this game within the football betting lines of 14 points.

NCAAF Betting Pick: Kentucky Wildcats +14
