Football Betting Line – Arizona vs Seattle
October 24, 2010
Usually when I’m emphatic about a certain team, I like to bet on the football over/under in a parlay to increase my payout. Call me greedy, but I do this for a living and when you have a game pitting the woeful Arizona Cardinals against the upstart Seattle Seahawks, you have to do something to make things a little more worthwhile than simply taking the spread.
A lot of the metrics on the head-to-head history between these teams gets automatically thrown out the window for two reasons. One is Anquan Boldin playing in Baltimore and the other is Kurt Warner Dancing With the Freaking Stars. Arizona went 6-1 ATS and 5-2 SU when they had those guys in the lineup against Seattle, but now the tides have turned.
Instead, the Cardinals will have to try and keep Larry Fitzgerald motivated with Max Hall under center. Now, I made a big stink about Hall in his debut because the Saints were underachieving against the spread and there was no tape on Hall.

Now that we have tape on the former BYU Cougar, here’s what we know about him at the NFL level: he sucks. That’s why the football over/under is so low, and frankly why Seattle is expected to destroy them this weekend.
The Cardinals have never been a great bet away from home, going just 1-5 ATS in their last six road games, and with Max Hall firing blanks at quarterback I trust them even less. Seattle is 4-2 SU in their last 6 games at home, and they’re coming off a big win over the Chicago Bears as the visiting team that should propel them way past the Red Birds.
Arizona Cardinals (3-2) vs. Seattle Seahawks (3-2)
Sunday, October 24th — Qwest Field — 4:05pm EST
Football Betting Line: Seattle -6.0
Football Over/Under: 40.0
Seattle is a mortal lock to cover in this game, but the question is whether both teams will score enough points to clear the football over/under. Traditionally, this matchup has gone in the over 9-of-12 times, but I’m going against all the historical trends in this one.
Pete Carroll is doing his best to put his team in a startling 4-2 SU position to open the first leg of the season, and won’t try to overstep himself and watch the Seahawks blow this game. That means conservative offense, short passing routes and a lot of field goals when necessary.
You can trust Max Hall to become a viable starter in the league if you want to, but there’s no way I’m buying. Against the Saints, at home, Hall was able to amass just 168 passing yards and threw an interception. Life will get a lot worse for him when the Seahawks have had a chance to study that game.
While Seattle will march to an early lead, they’ll softly pad the scoreboard throughout the game as Arizona watches punt after punt after punt careen through the air. They might as well punt their immediate future in to the toilet while they’re at it after Seattle decimates them with a -6.0 line to cover while holding this game on the lower end of the football over/under.
