NCAA Betting Odds:

Florida: +7 ½

Alabama: -7 ½

Total: 47 ½

After meeting in back-to-back SEC Championship games, these teams will meet in the regular season in 2010, with bragging rights, and the top spot in the conference on the line.

Alabama enters this game off an exhilarating come from behind win over Arkansas last weekend, in a game where they trailed 20-7 at one point in the second half, but put the clamps down, and scored the last 17 points in the victory. Alabama’s young defense made several big-time plays, including two late interceptions to seal the win.

But for all the talk about that defense, it’s this offense that reigns supreme. They’re currently averaging 39 points a game, and it’s behind a balanced pass and run attack. Obviously the headliner is the defending Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, who returned from injury two games ago and hasn’t seemed to miss a beat.

In just two games played, he’s already topped 150 yards twice, to go along with four touchdowns on the young season. Quarterback Greg McElroy appears to have picked up right where he left off last year too, as he’s got seven touchdowns and just three interceptions on the season.

But before you assume that the football betting advice says to take Alabama, don’t sleep on Florida either.

This team wasn’t great early, but has been of late, and just last weekend added a totally new dimension to their offense. That dimension comes in the name of Trey Burton. Burton is a back-up quarterback, whose thrown just one pass on the year, but it’s in his legs where his true strength lies. The freshman set a Florida record last weekend, by rushing for five touchdowns, in a 41-14 win over Kentucky.

So with that, is the football betting advice here to take the Gators? Not so fast my friend! The play here is Alabama. Take them to cover the points.

We already mentioned each team’s offense, so the key will be the defense. Even as young as they are, Alabama is on another planet. Despite losing names like Rolando McClain, Terrence Cody off last year’s group, this one has hardly missed a beat, and if you can believe it, rank No. 1 in the country in scoring defense, giving up just 12.5 points per game.

And as good as Florida has looked, they haven’t seen anything close to a defense this good, or an offense this good for that matter. Despite Burton’s best efforts, he’s only effective at the goal line, and if the regular quarterback John Brantley can’t get them there, it won’t matter.

It doesn’t help that leading rusher Jeff Demps has been battling nagging injuries all week. He’ll play, but who knows how effective he’ll be.

In the end, No. 1 Alabama will continue to roll, at what could be a third straight undefeated regular season. The free betting advice is clear: Make the Tide your pick today!

The Pick: Alabama -7 ½
