Football Betting Advice – Cincy Gets Points Against NC State
September 16, 2010
Those seeking football betting advice were very frustrated with the way the Cincinnati Bearcats performed in the first week of the season, especially since this team went undefeated into the Sugar Bowl last season.
On Thursday night, Cincinnati will visit the Wolfpack of North Carolina State in college football action that is set to begin at 7:30 PM ET at Carter-Finley Stadium (natural turf) in Raleigh, N.C. and on ESPN.
In the college football odds for this game, North Carolina State is a two-point favorite, with the total posted at 55 points.

Well, Cincinnati began the season nicely in the opener at Fresno State, getting off to a 14-0 lead before collapsing. They gave up the last four touchdowns of the game as Fresno got its revenge for last season’s defeat and beat us on our football betting advice.
Zach Collaros had to throw 41 passes, and though he was not intercepted in the game, he was sacked eight times, which was disastrous. Any way you look at it, this was a failure of the Cincy offensive line, which returned three starters and was supposed have a relatively competitive unit.
The Bearcats got out a little frustration last week with an easy win over Indiana State, an FCS team that proved very little, except that the ‘Cats can run for 263 yards against an out-gunned foe.
Even with that victory, this team is still ranked 95th in the country in total offense, so you certainly can’t say that they have been operating with an awful lot of efficiency, and that must be considered when we dole out our football betting advice for this game.
Could it be that the switch from Brian Kelly to Butch Jones has made that much of a difference for a team that brought back 44 lettermen?
Here are some of the college football trends as they impact our NCAA football betting advice on this game:
- Cincinnati has won 13 of its last 15 games SU
- Cincinnati has played four of its last six games OVER the total
- Cincinnati has won nine of its last eleven road games SU
- Cincinnati has played eight of its last 12 road games OVER the total
- NC State has won four of its last six games SU
- NC State has played eight of its last ten games OVER the total
- NC State has won six of its last eight home games SU

North Carolina State was either very fortunate or very impressive last week, depending on which way you look at it. The Wolfpack played error-free football, and took advantage of five Central Florida turnovers, turning two of them into touchdowns.
They also chased UCF’s starting quarterback, yet still almost blew a 21-point lead at Orlando. One of the reasons for that, and something which has to influence football betting advice on this game, was that N.C. State gained only 239 yards in total offense, with Russell Wilson completing just one of his 30 passes.
What should be noted about Wilson, though, is that he was not intercepted, and that’s one thing I don’t think Cincinnati can necessarily count on doing in this game.
Our football betting advice is one thing, but if I were offering my football advice to Butch Jones, it might be to stay with the running game if at all possible. It looks as if Darrin Williams and John Goebel, neither of whom contributed much last year, have some talent, and anyone who watched Collaros when stepping in for Tony Pike last year could see what he could do with his feet.
Thus far Cincinnati has had some trouble lighting a fire under itself, but a national TV appearance on Thursday night might be just the thing to do it. Our football betting advice is to grab the points with Cincinnati in college football action for Thursday.
