Rice Owls vs. North Texas Mean Green

TV/Radio Broadcast: Local TV, Sirius

NCAA Football Odds

Rice Owls (+2.5) -110

North Texas Mean Green (-2.5) -110

Over/Under 59

The Owls might have some quarterback issues right now, as they are probably going to be playing without Taylor McHargue, who started last week’s loss against the Texas Longhorns. However, Rice knew that it had three options under center to use before the year started, and now Nick Fanuzzi and Taylor Cook will get their chance to impress.

Rice only racked up 219 yards last week, but there is a good chance for Sam McGuffie to put together a better game on the ground this week than he did against one of the best front sevens in the entire country.
North Texas might look like it had a lousy offensive game last week against the Clemson Tigers, as it was defeated 34-17 in Death Valley.

However, Nathan Tune threw for 240 yards and Lance Dunbar rushed for another 116. The Mean Green possessed the football for nearly 42 minutes on the day, but four fumbles and two INTs were real killers; especially down in the red zone.

North Texas also went 11-for-22 on third downs and accounted for a whopping 25 first downs on the day against a powerful ACC stop unit.

Last season, this was a team that scored an average of 42.0 points per game from October 10th to October 31st. The bad news is that the ‘D’ allowed 45.3 points per game in that stretch. Over the L/10 games, the Mean Green has conceded an average of 36.8 points per game.

NCAA Football Insider Tip: The ‘over’ has cashed in 26 of Rice’s L/33 road games, which is a great bit of football online betting advice.

And why not? North Texas went on a huge tear of ‘over’ games last season, and it could be set to do the same thing again this year. The Mean Green put forth a ton of yards last week, but couldn’t turn it into points. This week should be a lot different.

Rice and North Texas combined to score 97 points in 2008, the only time that these two teams have met in recent history.

Our best piece of football betting advice is to snare the ‘over’.
