The Georgia Bulldogs have built a tradition of staunch defense but over the last two years, Georgia has give up 34 or more points nine times in 24 games. It’s been a far cry from the intimidators they Bulldogs used to field.
The man responsible for making the change is Todd Grantham; Grantham has stressed speed and ferocity on the defensive side of the ball. The team is switching from the 4-3 defensive to a 3-4 that utilized a big nose tackle and four linebackers.
The players’ talk highly of the switch and fans are looking for something better than the 8-5 record the put up last season.
The offense returns 10 starters on the offensive side of the ball. Under center is red shirt freshman Aaron Murray who won the starters job in camp. He should have an easy transition if he can get the ball to star junior receiver A.J. Green. Green hauled in 53 catches for 808 yards and 6 touchdowns in 2009, it was a drop from his rookie season but still very solid.
The Georgia running back Caleb King should have an easy time of it against the Ragin Cajuns as the Bulldogs return four starters including stud left tackle Clint Boling. King is replacing Washaun Ealey after the team suspended Ealey indefinitely for his role in a hit and run accident.
The UL Lafayette Ragin Cajuns are looking to improve on their 6-6 season of the past two seasons but with an inexperienced offensive line and five freshmen starting on the offense, the prospects don’t look good.
Under center for the Ragin Cajuns is Chris Masson who threw for 2406 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. The Ragin Cajuns tailback Julian Shankle and tight end Ladarius Green have the potential to put up good numbers but with the suspect offensive line, it’s doubtful they will perform against the Bulldogs.
This game will be a chance for Todd Grantham’s new Georgia defense to flex its muscles and put the rest of the SEC on warning that the old Georgia is back.
NCAAF Betting Pick: Georgia -28
