Football Betting – Texans Looks to Stop Bleedings vs Jets
November 20, 2010
Football betting fans recognize that the Houston Texans are hurting right now, with five losses in their last seven games, and on Sunday they are going to try and stop the bleeding against a team that likes to extend it – the New York Jets – in a game that is set to begin at 1 PM ET at Meadowlands Stadium (artificial turf) in East Rutherford, NJ. The Jets are the seven-point favorites in the football betting odds, with the total on the game posted at 46 points.

Here are some of the trends as they impact the football betting odds on this game:
- Houston is 0-5 ATS in its last five games
- Houston has lost five of its last seven games SU
- Houston has played seven of its last ten games OVER the total
- Houston has won four of its last six road games SU
- Houston is 2-4-1 ATS in its last seven road games
- New York has played seven of its last eight games OVER the total
- New York has won seven of its last eight games SU
In dropping their last five games in football betting, the Texans have not done a whole lot for coach Gary Kubiak’s coaching future. Last season this team had its first winning record, and looked like a juggernaut to some after wins over Indianapolis and Washington to open the season, but things have gone south since then. The low-water mark night have been last week’s game against Jacksonville, when they gave up a freak touchdown on a Hail Mary pass on the final play.
One of the reasons for Houston’s demise has been a defense that has been rather permissive through the air, as the Texans have allowed 8.1 yards per pass play. Unquestionably they miss linebacker DeMeco Ryans, who is out for the rest of the year, and they had moved Brian Cushing into the middle. But that idea has finally been scrapped and Cushing is going back to the outside. He is happy about that. "I think the coaches could see the frustrations that I had," he said. "I didn’t feel that anything was wrong, but I didn’t feel like I was really playing the game that I can.”
Here are the head-to-head football betting trends as they involve the NFL odds on this game:
- New York has won and covered the last four meetings
- All four meetings have gone UNDER the total

The Jets have won seven of their eight games after that debacle in the opener against Baltimore (covering six of them in football betting), when they couldn’t get any offense together, with Mark Sanchez had just 74 yards through the air. Sanchez went through the first five games of the year without throwing an interception, but in his last four games he’s had four TD’s and six INT’s. has he made a lot of progress? Probably, from a leadership standpoint. But whether he has enough to exploit Houston’s weak secondary to its fullest is another question entirely.
Should football bettors assume that Arian Foster is not going to make any headway against the Jets’ defensive front (allowing 3.4 yards per rush)? Not necessarily. But Foster’s best role her might be to offer the balance that is needed for the Texans to get their passing attack going. Regardless of who the Jets assign to Andre Johnson (Darelle Revis or Antonio Cromartie), it is going to be a rough job, with Johnson rambling for 431 yards the last four games. LaDainian Tomlinson may be slowing down from the grind of the season as it progresses (3.4 ypc over his last four games). And the jets have not created a lot of distance between themselves and the likes of Denver, Cleveland or Detroit lately (and Minnesota too, until a return of a Brett Favre interception with 1:30 left). We’re going to look for the Matt Schaub-Andre Johnson connection to find its mark a little, and will grab the seven points with Houston in the football betting odds.
