After some early season struggles, the Saints come into this one playing as well as they have all year, having won four in a row, including a 3-1 record against the spread during that stretch.

Really, there is little difference from the beginning of the year to now, other than the continued development of quarterback Drew Brees. Early in the year, Brees struggled, throwing a combined seven interceptions in the Saints last two losses to Arizona and Cleveland. However since then, he’s been improved, and has only thrown more than one interception once in this win streak. Considering how much he throws the ball, those numbers aren’t nearly as bad as you’d think.

Of course as well as Brees is playing, New Orleans’ defense is playing just as well, and not getting nearly  the credit this offense does. Currently, the Saints rank in the top 10 in both total defense (seventh) and scoring defense (sixth), giving up just 306 yards and 17 points per game.

Meanwhile, their opponents this weekend enter the Football Betting playing about as poorly as anyone in the National Football League. The Cincinnati Bengals have now lost eight in a row, and are without a win since the last weekend in September. Wow.

The numbers speak for themselves, as currently, the Bengals are allowing 26 points on defense, while scoring just 21 points on offense, a sure sign of failure. And while it’s impossible to blame one guy, there’s no doubt that quarterback Carson Palmer has regressed this year at quarterback. Through two thirds of the NFL season, Palmer is completing less than 60 percent of his passes, and seems to be getting progressively worse every week. Palmer has thrown seven interceptions in his last three games, after throwing just two in the three games prior than that. No matter how you cut it though, this team, and this quarterback is a mess.

So when it comes to this weekend’s Football Betting, go ahead and play it safe with the Saints.

This seems like the right play for a number of reasons. For one, the Bengals are just awful, flat out awful. Beyond that, this is an important game for New Orleans. They’re currently one game behind Atlanta in the NFC South standings and just one game ahead of divisional rival Tampa Bay for a Wild Card. And with those teams playing this weekend, a win here will allow them to gain ground in the pursuit of the playoffs. A loss would be devastating.

Luckily, it won’t happen.

The Saints are the better team on offense and on defense, and even on the road, this one won’t be close. When it comes to this weekend’s NFL Betting, go ahead and wager on New Orleans. You won’t be disappointed.

Football Betting: New Orleans -6 ½
