New England Patriots @ Detroit Lions
Ford Field, Detroit, Michigan
Broadcast: CBS
Football Betting Odds: Patriots -7, Lions +7
Total: 50.5
The Patriots have won two straight and seven of their last eight, including knocking off a pair of legitimate Super Bowl contenders by taking down the Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts in consecutive weeks. Meanwhile, the Lions have lost three in a row and now open a three-game set at home that features rivalry games against the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers the following two weeks.
Football Betting: What The Patriots Will Have To Do To Win?
The Patriots will need another solid performance from quarterback Tom Brady, who along with head coach Bill Belichick has proven once again this season to be the key to New England’s success. Brady looked outstanding in the win over the Colts, and while the running game should get more looks in this one, this game will serve as a good tune up for the passing game before the following week’s showdown with the New York Jets.
The Patriots’ defense put forth a solid performance last week by interception four-time MVP Peyton Manning three times, and will need to continue to show marked improvement as the postseason nears.
Football Betting: What The Lions Will Have To Do To Win?
If the Lions are going to have any shot, they will have to get after Brady. That will start with slowing down the run as this looks to be a game where the Patriots will allow their backs to pound the rock and open things up for the passing game. The Lions rank near the bottom of the league when it comes to moving the ball on the ground, and quarterback Shaun Hill will need to be careful with his mistakes in order to avoid turning the ball over the way Manning did.
Football Betting: Outlook & Pick
The Lions have lost three straight and it will be hard for them to avoid letting that number rise to at least six with divisional showdowns against the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers following this week’s clash with the Patriots. While New England did manage to find a way to lose to the Cleveland Browns three weeks ago, the Patriots are primed and locked in a battle with the New York Jets for the AFC East division lead, and after taking down a couple of AFC contenders they should have little trouble dismissing the Lions, a Thanksgiving tradition.
Football Betting Pick: Patriots -7
