Jerry Jones was probably contemplating a replacement for Wade Phillips long before he finally did it, but didn’t want to, partially because he felt some loyalty, and partially because he just didn’t think it was going to change things much for the better. Well, it appears that change has improved the fortunes of the Cowboys, at least for now, and that means something for football betting aficionados. They have won both games, and scored 68 points in the process, and Jon Kitna is now throwing for more yards per attempt than predecessor Tony Romo (7.74).
The wins over the Giants and the Lions constitute the first time the Cowboys have won back-to-back games this season, and many people have directly attributed that to Garrett cracking the whip. Certainly the atmosphere isn’t stale anymore, the way it was around Phillips. Jason Witten, Miles Austin and Dez Bryant are in place, and that is good news for football bettors who wants to place wagers on Dallas.
Here are some of the head-to-head football betting trends with regard to the NFL odds:
- New Orleans has won five of the last six meetings SU
- Eight of the last eleven meetings have gone UNDER the total
- Dallas has won five of the last seven meetings SU as the home team
New Orleans has looked sluggish for much of the year, but the Saints seems to have come on the last few weeks, with three wins in a row, and they certainly don’t look much like the team that was a comedy of errors against the Cleveland Browns back on October 24, as they lost 30-17 at home. Last week they had 494 yards against Seattle, which was a season high. NFL bettors have taken notice that Seattle’s Matt Hasselbeck managed 366 yards through the air against the New Orleans secondary last week.
We don’t think it will be a huge problem for the Cowboys to move the ball against the Saints, although we grant that Kitna might make a few mistakes along the way that could lead to opportunities. The Saints have allowed 22 TD passes and more than seven yards an attempt. The technical trends point to some scoring, as the Cowboys have played their last seven games over the total. With Drew Brees finding the range, and Reggie Bush back to offer some offensive support, we think this number might be manageable for us, so we’ll go over the total in football betting for Thanksgiving Day.
