Football Betting – Chicago Bears vs Minnesota Vikings
December 20, 2010
Well, it’s going to below freezing for the Minnesota/Chicago Monday Night Football Betting showdown, but what else would you expect out of a December day in Minneapolis. This may actually benefit the Bears more as they play outside already and will be used to the weather. The cold hasn’t deterred Brett Favre as the old grey beard may just be making another comeback.
His status for this game has gone from out to questionable, which means he woke up today feeling like he could play, and that may be all that Leslie Frazier needs to hear to give number 4 the green light. That decision is likely to come closer to game time, but I’m going to say that Favre starts this Football Betting contest.

Chicago Bears vs. Minnesota Vikings (TCF Bank Stadium – Minneapolis, MN)
Monday, December 20th – 8:30 PM ET
TV: ESPN
Regardless of who’s starting for the Vikings, the Chicago Bears are still a touchdown favourite tonight. The seven points hasn’t scared anyone away as 75 percent of Football Betting action has come in on the Bears to cover.
That’s a pretty safe bet in my opinion as Chicago is 4-0 in their division and has the opportunity to clinch the division tonight with a win. They also handled the Vikings quite easily in their Week 10 showdown in Chicago, 27-13, a game in which Favre tossed three picks.
Football Betting Spread:
Chicago Bears -7 (-105), -300
Minnesota Vikings +250
Total – 33
The fact that Favre may play gives a little hope to the Vikings, but he’s going up against a Bears team that is once again one of the better defensive teams in the NFL. And when you combine a tough defence with an outdoor game in below freezing weather, that doesn’t make for very favourable circumstances, especially when you’ve got all kinds of question marks at the quarterback position.
The Vikings do have Adrian Peterson, but the Bears come in with the second best rush defence in the NFL and AP isn’t at 100 percent.
Here are some NFL Sports Betting Trends for this one:
- Home team is 13-3 ATS in their last 16 meetings.
- Favourite is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
- Bears are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Minnesota.
- Bears are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Monday games.
This one doesn’t figure to be pretty, but the Bears should be able to do enough to cover the seven points. Even if Favre is able to start, he is far from healthy, and if he can’t go, it will be Joe Webb making his first career start. Add that all up and it’s looking pretty good for your Football Betting pick on the Chicago Bears.
Football Betting Pick: Chicago (-7)
