Football Betting – AFC East Showdown

September 26, 2010

The AFC East is wide open as the Football Betting public predicted.

This week’s game between the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins will go a long way in determining the clear front runner in the division and the teams that may struggle just to keep up.

The New York Jets were Football Betting darlings before the season but took until Week 2 to prove that the prognosticators knew what they were talking about. A Week 1 dud was followed up by a strong Week 2. Now the Jets are poised to take control of the division that many thought they would own.

Mark Sanchez shook the criticism of the fans and the Football Betting world with a 220 yard, three touchdown performances against the Patriots in Week 2. Week 3 will mark the first time that the Jets play on enemy turf this season – a place that they have been successful in the recent past.

Week 2 also saw the emergence of LaDainian Tomlinson as a threat to Shonne Greene for touches out of the Jest backfield. His rebirth and 6.3 yards per carry average may have won him a bigger share of the work in New York at Shonne Greene’s expense.

The receiving corp. has been OK but with Braylon Edwards arrest this week for DUI, the sideshow will continue.

Those of you Football Betting on the New York Jets knew that the offense wasn’t going to be the best part of their game. The defense has been lights out so far this season and will have a little extra motivation this week. Jason Taylor returns to face the team that he played for 12 seasons. He should be as pumped as the home town fans this week.

*Note – Darrelle Revis has been ruled out of this week’s game.

The Miami Dolphins are, for my Football Betting dollar, the quietest 2-0 team in the NFL. Their passing game has been terrible and the running game has been below average so far this season. The offense has only scored an average of 10 points per game this season but they have been making sure not to turn the ball over.

The Dolphins defense, particularly the secondary has been good this season. They did have a difficult time handling Adrian Peterson last week but who doesn’t? They have allowed a total of 20 points in the two games they have played so far, have four interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Football Betting Outlook:

The New York Jets are 6-2 ATS on the road in their last eight games against the AFC East. The Dolphins are 3-0 in their last three against the Jets, but are 1-6 ATS at home versus the Jets and are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games.

The Jets will be without Darrelle Revis this weekend and they could be without their standout center Nick Mangold as well. The matchup of Antonio Cromartie on Brandon Marshall certainly favors the Dolphins and could very well be the difference in the game. Both teams will run to set up the pass and I like Miami`s passing offense a little more than New York`s.

Football Betting Pick: Miami Dolphins – 2
