MLB BASEBALL BETTING – Game Match-Up 6/3

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Florida Marlins 7:10 ET

After taking the first two games of this series, the Florida Marlins (25-28, -$305) will be on the prowl for their third straight ‘W’ at the expense of the Milwaukee Brewers (30-22, +$835). In last night’s sports betting affair, the Fishes bats were humming, as the combination of 2B Dan Uggla and CF Cody Ross went 4-for-9 with four runs scored and eight RBIs, resulting in an impressive 10-3 victory for the hosts.

Tonight, BetOnline Sportsbook has placed the MLB line for this game at a pick ‘em, while the ‘total’ has been lined at 9 over -120.

After getting a pair of sub-par pitching performances, manager Ken Macha will hand the ball off to RHP Braden Looper on Wednesday night. Of Milwaukee’s three pitchers that are in the Top-12 for money earned this season, Looper is second to David Bush with a healthy profit of $451 on the season. The once-upon-a-time closer turned starter has pitched well this season, going 5-3 with a 4.24 ERA, but things haven’t gone so well for him in his L/6 starts. The righty has a 5.35 ERA and has allowed at least four runs in four of those starts. Still, thanks to some powerful batting performances, he has salvaged a 3-3 record both personally and for the team. One of those great batting performances came on May 13th against the Marlins, when Looper gave up five runs in 6.0 innings of work, but was good enough to post the ‘W’. In his career, the righty is 5-2 against Florida with a 4.31 ERA. His WHIP is solid (1.19), but the fact that he has converted three saves against three blown ones isn’t a great sign. Florida see’s him well…

The Fish will counter with LHP Sean West on Wednesday. The 22-year old has pitched well in two career starts this season in spite of the fact that the Marlins are 0-2 in those games. In his last start, he held the Mets to just one run in seven frames of work, but thanks to a strong performance by RHP Mike Pelfrey, the effort went to waste. Standing at 6’8”, West is an imposing figure on the mound, and he can crank the ball up there at 96 MPH when he rears back. The southpaw had a 10.29 K/9 in the minors, which hasn’t exactly translated into MLB success yet this season (5.25 K/9). Still, the signs are there that the pitcher that Florida plucked out of Double-A to replace the struggling Ricky Nolasco in the rotation will be around for quite some time.

West has had some tough luck in two starts this season thanks to absolutely no run support (2.0 runs per game). He’ll get better from the streaking Marlins tonight assuming that they didn’t shoot their wad by scoring 17 runs over the L/2 days and 26 in the L/4. He should pick up his first career ‘W’ tonight against a team that has dropped five straight road games.

Rose’s Recommendation: 3* Florida Marlins -110 (West)

(Rating Scale: 1* – 5*)
