Florida Searching For Answers as NCAAF Betting Faves vs. Mississippi State
October 16, 2010
The #22 Florida Gators will be searching for answers as NCAAF betting online favorites versus the Mississippi State Bulldogs this Saturday after their second straight loss in SEC play last Saturday.
The Gators, 6 ½ point home favorites versus LSU, couldn’t keep the Tigers out of the end zone in the 4th quarter and ended up losing 29 to 33. That loss came on the heels of a 6 to 31 drubbing at the hands of then #1 Alabama a week before.

Now, Florida will be trying to just win a ball game as 7-point home favorites versus Mississippi State on Oct. 16th. Are the Gators a good NCAAF betting prediction to cover the spread on Saturday?

NCAAF Betting Lines
Mississippi State Bulldogs +7 -110
Florida Gators -7 -110
The NCAAF betting against the spread trends favor neither team in this game.
- The Mississippi State Bulldogs are 3-1-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
- The Mississippi State Bulldogs are 2 and 6 ATS in their last 8 games as an underdog on the road.
- The Florida Gators are 19 and 9 ATS in their last 28 games overall.
- The Florida Gators are 2 and 5 ATS in their last 7 conference games.
It’s obvious that Florida is rebuilding this season. The loss to ‘Bama was to be expected but getting trounced on the NCAAF betting expert line was not. The odds makers, and many football handicappers, gave the Gators the benefit of the doubt by making them only 7 ½ point dogs.
How did they reward us? By letting the Crimson Tide running backs scamper all over their defense and calling stupid plays on the goal line.
Any forgiveness that football gamblers had for the Gators was washed away in their straight up loss to the LSU Tigers last week. Florida used to be automatic in the Swamp.
Not any more. Losing to a Tigers’ team that had shown signs of weakness against Tennessee and North Carolina is almost unforgivable.
But is it 7 points unforgivable? That’s the thing. As much as I dislike Florida as a team to back against the spread, the NCAAF betting latest lines on this game, Florida -7, might be giving the Mississippi State Bulldogs too much credit.
Yes, the trends say that the Bulldogs could cover the spread but usually Florida is at least a double-digit favorite versus Mississippi State in the Swamp and often times they’ve been a -20 or bigger fave against the Bulldogs in Florida. So, what gives? Nothing really.
The NCAAF betting odds makers are impressed with Mississippi State’s 24 to 12 victory over Georgia and 47 to 24 victory over the Houston Cougars. In the game against Georgia, Mississippi State faced a Georgia Bulldog passing attack missing their best wide receiver.
In the game against Houston, MSU got to face the Cougars without their starting quarterback.
Florida appears to be fairly healthy and the Gators will be out looking for blood in this game after being upset by rival LSU last Saturday. I don’t see Mississippi State keeping this game within the number. Florida is my NCAAF betting expert pick to cover the spread on Saturday.
