Florida’s Favorite: Tim Tebow

September 8, 2009

The Heisman Trophy race is in full effect. Right now, the BetOnline online sportsbook hasn’t released the latest football odds as the first week of the 2009 College Football Season is already in the books.

Those odds will probably be released in a couple of weeks and when they are, Tim Tebow, the senior quarterback for the #1 ranked Florida Gators, no doubt will be going off at low football odds in the sportsbook.

Why? Because Tebow simply isn’t the best player in this season in college football, he’s the best college football player to ever step onto a football field. How good is Tim Tebow? Good enough for me to say that any team that if he isn’t chosen as the number one pick in the NFL Draft come next April, I will personally drive to New York and lambaste whatever team that didn’t draft him.

I’m being hyperbolic, of course. I will turn my back on that NFL team during the 2010 NFL Season no matter what the football odds on them might be because any team stupid enough to pass on Tebow is crazy.

Here’s the thing, by good, I do not mean stats good. That’s not what’s impressive about Tim Tebow. Yes, the stats are there, Tebow had a 138 quarterback rating in 2008 and threw for 30 touchdowns as opposed to 4 picks. He’s also 6’ 3” and 240 pounds. So, the measurements are there as well.

By good, I mean human being good. Tim Tebow would add class to any NFL team that picked him up in the draft just like he has added class to a Florida Gators team that some thought was lacking it before he became the starting quarterback. Tebow has already gone on missions for the Mormon Church and will do so again. He doesn’t drink, curse, sleep around. He doesn’t preach either which is a good thing in college football betting. All he does is lead by example both on and off the field.

Tim Tebow is the unquestioned leader of the Gators. He will do whatever it takes to win and because of that, he’s the key player on the Gators’ squad when it comes to odds makers creating football odds for Florida games and when it comes to gamblers choosing which is the best wager out of those football odds.

As Time Tebow goes, so goes the Gators. It’s been written and said before, but it needs to be said again. The Mormon kid born in Manila in the Philippines is one of the most outstanding individuals to ever play college football both on and off the football field.

He’s also the reason that the Florida Gators are a huge favorite to make it to their 3rd BCS Championship game in the past four years this season. The football odds on the Gators to win it are ridiculously low.

It all has to do with Tim Tebow. Will he win the Heisman Trophy in his senior year like he did in his sophomore year? Maybe not. The Heisman Trophy usually isn’t given to the same player twice, but Tebow is a special player and most Heisman Trophy voters know this.

One thing is for sure, I’d be hesitant to bet against Tim Tebow no matter what the football odds are to win the Heisman Trophy because I truly believe he is that good of a player.
