Fiesta Bowl Betting – Boise State Broncos vs. TCU Horned Frogs
January 4, 2010
The top two mid-major teams in the country battle in out in the Fiesta Bowl betting proceedings on January 4th when the Boise State Broncos (13-0, 8-5 ATS) clash with the TCU Horned Frogs (12-0, 8-4 ATS).
Both of these teams feel like they made a case to play for the National Championship this season, particularly TCU, who may have ultimately been a few seconds away from playing for all of the marbles had the Longhorns lost to Nebraska in the Big XII Championship Game. Boise State is no stranger to the BCS or the Fiesta Bowl, as it won one of the most memorable games in bowl history when it knocked off mighty Oklahoma in overtime of the 2007 edition of this game. This will be Texas Christian’s first ever trip to the BCS. Take a look at how BetOnline Sportsbook thinks that the Fiesta Bowl betting action will go in two weeks!
Boise State Offense vs. TCU Defense: Does TCU boast the best defense in the entire country? Statistics will show that it’s quite possible. The Horned Frogs rank #1 in the land in total defense, allowing just 233.2 yards per game. They rank 4th in stopping the pass (152.8 yards per game) and 3rd against the run (80.5 yards per game). Six opponents were held to ten points or less, and Utah was the only FBS team to score more than 17 points against them this season.

However, Boise State’s offense is likely the best that this club has seen. Over their L/7 games, the Broncos have scored at least 42 points each time, averaging a whopping 49.3 points per game. They have the #1 scoring offense in the country at 44.2 points per game. QB Kellen Moore made a case for awhile about winning the Heisman Trophy, as he threw for 3,325 yards and had by far the best TD/INT ratio in the land, throwing 39 touchdowns against just three picks for the whole year.
TCU Offense vs. Boise State Defense: Everyone recognizes just how good TCU’s defense is, but does anyone realize how good its offense is? QB Andy Dalton is a dual-threat under center. He threw for 2,484 yards and 22 TDs and rushed for 516 more yards to go with three more touchdowns with his legs. The three-headed monster of RBs Joseph Turner, Matthew Tucker, and Ed Wesley combined to rush for 2,035 yards and 23 TDs in ’09. The Horned Frogs have put at least 38 points on the board in each of their games dating back to October 17th, a stretch of seven games.
Boise’s defense looked amazing to start the season when it beat Oregon 19-8 and then shut out Miami (OH), but since then, things have gotten a little on the rocky side. Allowing 33 points to Nevada is excusable considering how strong the Wolfpack rushing attack is, but giving up 35 to Louisiana Tech, 25 to Idaho (without its starting quarterback) and 21 to Utah State in the interim isn’t anything to speak highly of. Still, this squad is only allowing 299.6 yards per game this year, good enough for 13th best mark in the country.
