Favre to Vikings – Say it Ain’t so

Favre To Vikings; Headaches To My Brain
No no no no no no no no no don’t do this again, Brett. I’m dead serious. You waffled like Jon Kerry last season, and now you’re doing it again. We’ve run out of ways to defend you. Nobody wants this. Sail in to the horizon on a glorious legend. Go down as a myth,
News surfaced that head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, Brad Childress, and Brett Favre are trying to bring the aging legend in to Minnesota. And of course, I can’t let this slide in good conscious.
First of all, Minnesota plays in the same freaking division as the Green Bay Packers, a team that Favre played with for 15 seasons. Doesn’t this just scream sacrilege? Does Favre really think he can get away with this? Does this make any sense to anyone?
Listen, I love Brett Favre as much as the next football fan, and half as much as John Madden. When he threw for six touchdowns on 289 yards against Kurt Warner and the Cardinals in Week 4 of last year, it was amazing. You just don’t want to see a good thing end. After 18 years, however, it’s time to let this go.
Besides, I already spent the good portion of last summer defending Favre to the nay-sayers who slandered Favre for waffling on coming back, leaving the Packers, signing in New York with the Jets and keeping everyone guessing. You can get away with that once. But not twice.
I understand the logic. Minnesota is a team with a thriving front-seven on defense, Adrian Peterson and Bernard Berrian and no quarterback. They inexplicably splurged for Sage Rosenfels, only to watch Jay Cutler arrive in Chicago for a bevy of draft picks. How many clipboards do you think Childress broke after that story broke? Twenty? Fifty?
So here’s my thing – if you’re decided that Tavaris Jackson isn’t the future, that Gus Frerotte is a waste of time and Sage Rosenfels is perhaps your best option, then why don’t you go after a quarterback on the market? How is Sage Rosenfels you’re go-to guy!? What the hell is wrong with Minnesota?
The Vikings went just 6-10 ATS in the 2008 NFL season, though finished atop the NFC North at 10-6 SU. The funny thing about this Favre talk is that Childress obviously screwed up his quarterback choice by electing to pick-up Sage and now he’s screaming it as loud as he can. Actions speak louder than words, and for both Childress and Favre are both making a huge mistake.
Minnesota is scrambling to grab a quarterback after four potential quarterbacks entered the NFL through the draft. Sure it looks like a “great move” for both teams, but it’s not. Who knows where Favre’s head is going to be, and he’ll have to play Green Bay at least twice next season. There’s no telling how he’ll react to that.
If you’re going to retire, Brett, retire. Walk away proud. Stop teasing us. You’re going to break the hearts of all those Minnesota betting fiends out there. Just leave it alone. It’s time to walk away, Brett. Everyone knows it but you.
