Falcons at Panthers – Football Betting Advice Here is Not the Obvious
December 11, 2010
Carolina is the WORST team in my NFL Power Rankings for four weeks running Football Betting Public. Atlanta has been a top 10 team almost all year and resides at #2 now after a constant rise this year.
The NFL Playoffs are so close now that it will influence decisions coaches and players make to prepare for those. You don’t want to get caught making NFL Football Bets without knowing that.
Atlanta Falcons (10-2) at Carolina Panthers (1-11) – Sunday December 12 at 1:00 ET

Bank of America Stadium (73,778) – Charlotte, North Carolina
Football Betting Line:
Atlanta Falcons (8-4 ATS) -7 (ML -330)
Carolina Panthers (3-9 ATS) +7 (ML +270)
Over/Under Total – 42 ½
This game doesn’t seem to be a close matchup on paper, on a computer screen or in my head. There are some deeper things to be examined before this Football Betting decision is final.
Atlanta is playing the second of three consecutive road games, and that can beat you like a rug sometimes. They are undefeated at home with six wins but have a 4-2 record on the road losing to Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
The Panthers actually beat them last time they played in November of last year 28-19 in Charlotte, the same place this game is played. The Falcons also lost Michael Turner for the rest of the season in that game.
Carolina is a much worse team this year, but this is a game the whole team will be up for. Atlanta has a big target on them right now, and an upset here could help lighten the sting of the appalling season they are having.
Last week the Falcons had a narrow win over NFC Betting South Division rival Tampa Bay. Matt Ryan had his worst game of the year with a 62.8 passer rating.
I would expect them to rely heavily on Michael Turner busting the Panthers up. In Football Betting terms, this means it will be a time control game that will be more conservative than most.
The rushing defense on Atlanta is allowing less than 100 yards on the ground average per week, but the way you can beat them is in the air. The Falcons are ranked 26th in the NFL allowing almost 250 yards per game passing.
The problem the Panthers have is that they really suck on offense this year. They are ranked dead last in the NFL for total offense and is passing offense averaging 157.3 yards a game.
Jimmy Clausen is an embarrassment to starting QBs with the worst passer rating in the NFL at 55.3. He is 0-6 as a starter and actually has thrown more touchdowns to opposing defenses than his own people.
Football Betting advice has to consider this time of year is when the teams making a run for Super Bowl glory are trying to rest their studs a little bit when they get a chance. I think the Falcons will do that here for Matt Ryan.
I would expect this game to be a slowed down lower scoring game for Carolina because they suck and Atlanta just to get the W with a minimal effort or risk.
