Expert NFL Picks – Cleveland Browns vs. Baltimore Ravens

September 27, 2009

Cleveland Browns (+13) vs. Baltimore Ravens (-13)

O/U (38½)

Sunday, September 27 1:00 PM ET

The Baltimore Ravens (2-0 SU, 2-0 ATS, 2-0 O/U) will be looking to keep their regular season record unblemished while the Cleveland Browns (0-2 SU, 0-2 ATS, 1-1 O/U) will be looking to record this first victory of the season when the two AFC North division rivals battle at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday at 1 PM ET.

The Ravens made my expert NFL pick pay off as they handled the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, winning 31-26 as a 1-point road underdog in Week 2 while the game’s combined score played OVER the 41point Over/Under total.

Second-year quarterback Joe Flacco completed 17 of 26 passes for 190 yards with a pair of touchdown passes and an interception while running back Willis McGahee rushed for 79 yards and two scores on 15 carries.

The Browns lost to the Denver Broncos 27-6 as a 3-point underdog in Week 2 while the game’s 33 total points cashed in Under the 38.5-point Over/Under total.

Brady Quinn completed 18 of 31 passes for 161 yards with one interception while Braylon Edwards caught six passes for 92 yards.

Analysis: I took the Ravens to cover the spread against Kansas City in Week 1 as 13-point home favorites and the suddenly-explosive Ravens came through for me – which is why I’m coming right back with them in this contest against a Browns team that looks as lost as ever in head coach Eric Mangini’s first season.

The Browns have gone a dismal 1-4 ATS in their last five games against AFC North division rivals while also going a pitiful 0-4 ATS against a team with a winning record and 0-7-1 ATS in their last eight games overall.

The Ravens have routinely beaten up on lesser foes lately, going a spotless 7-0 ATS against a team with a losing record while also posting a solid 8-1 ATS mark in their last nine games as a favorite.

While the Browns have gone a surprising 5-2 ATS in their last seven matchups against Baltimore, I think all signs point to a solid Ravens cover this time with Baltimore going 5-1 ATS in their last six games following an SU win and the home team going 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these teams.

With the Over going a nearly-spotless 4-0-1 in the last five meetings and 5-1 in the last six meetings in Baltimore, I also like the Over in this contest.
