The story of this game is the story of these two teams, and the fact that they’re going in completely different directions. And before we get to Villanova, we must first talk about St. John’s.
Why are we talking about St. John’s? Because the coaching job that Steve Lavin has done there this year is amongst the best in the country. The Red Storm are in the midst of an incredible stretch of seven wins in their last eight games, including victories over Duke, UConn and Pitt during that time.
They are also 5-0 against the college basketball bettting spread in their last five games, making them one of the best Expert Betting Picks of the previous few weeks.
Leading the Red Storm is maybe the most underrated guard in all of college basketball, Dwight Hardy. While Kemba Walker and Ben Hansbrough get all the attention in the Big East, Hardy has been as good as either, as he’s averaging 17.3 points, and has put up more than 20 in four of his last six games.
As for Villanova, well sadly for Wildcats fans, they’re on the opposite end of the Expert Betting Picks, and may be playing as poorly as any Top 25 team in the country right now. The Wildcats are just 5-5 straight up in their last 10 games, and an abysmal 2-8 against the spread in that stretch as well. Things don’t get any easier with three ranked teams left on their schedule.
So what are our Expert Betting Picks here? It’s obviously St. John’s.
At this point in the season, a team is what their record says they are, and right now, the Red Storm might be the hottest team in all of college basketball. While they don’t have a ton of quality road wins, remember, they did knock of Marquette in Milwaukee in their most recent trip away from New York.
And on the opposite sideline, we just don’t know what to make of Villanova. Monday’s loss may have been their worst in this current stretch of putrid basketball. The Wildcats fell to Syracuse at home, shooting an embarrassing 32 percent from the field, and making just 5 of 16 three-pointers. Are we really supposed to believe things will be better here?
We just can’t, which is why at the end of the day, we’ll go ahead and take St. John’s. They’ve been one of the best Expert Betting Picks of the past few weeks, and we expect nothing to change Saturday.
