European Tour – Best Tournament Matchup Bets for the BMW International Open

June 23, 2010

Those Euros don’t sleep!  Fresh off of a tough U.S. Open, some of the biggest names on the European Tour are back in action this week in Munich, Germany for the BMW International Open.

One of those names is Ernie Els.  The fantastic South African is the favorite in the golf sportsbook to take down the rest of his Euro Tour stars and win the BMW International Open.

But is he a good golf bet in the tournament matchups?

European Tour:  BMW International Open

Where:  Golfclub Munchen Eichenried, Munich, Germany

When:  June 24th thru June 27th 2010

TV:  The Golf Channel

Tournament Matchups

  1. Ernie Els -130 vs. Martin Kaymer Ev – - Ernie’s finished in the Top 10 in 3 out of his last 5 tournaments started.  This includes that awesome 3rd place finish at the U.S. Open last week.  Kaymer didn’t do very well in this tournament last year, but the young German should know the course now and he did finish 8th at the U.S. Open last week.  I’ll take a shot on Kaymer in this matchup because Ernie could regress after that stellar effort last week.

           Pick:  Martin Kaymer

  1. Paul Casey -140 vs. Charl Schwartzel +110 – - Casey had a great 1st round at the U.S. Open last week before imploding and finishing in 40th place.  Schwartzel is a good golfer that is coming off of a 16th place finish at the U.S. Open.  He also finished 2nd at the WGC-CA earlier this year.  The man is worth a bet at the golf odds to win this matchup.

           Pick:  Charl Schwartzel

  1. Sergio Garcia -120 vs. Peter Hanson -110 – - Sergio’s had another tough year but the 22nd at the U.S. Open might be a sign that his game is coming around.  Hanson finished 13th at the BMW PGA Championship and then 16th at the U.S. Open in his last 2 tournaments started. The man is playing better than Sergio.  He deserves the nod in this matchup.

           Pick:  Peter Hanson

  1. Robert Karlsson -140 vs. Ross Fisher +110 – - Karlsson’s 27th place finish at Pebble Beach last week is better than it looks considering how difficult the course played on all four days.  Fisher finished in 75th place at The Celtic Manor Wales Open and 84th at the U.S. Open in his last 2 tournaments started.  Obviously, Karlsson is a much sharper golfer right now.

           Pick:  Ross Fisher

  1. Richard Green -125 vs. Miguel A Jimenez -105 – - Green finished at -15 in the 2009 BMW International Open while Jimenez finished at -17.  This one can go either way.  Green is getting the nod by the golf odds makers because Pebble Beach beat up Jimenez last week, but I like Miguel’s chances and I will bet him in this matchup.

           Pick:  Miguel Angel Jimenez

  1. Thongchai Jaidee -130 vs. Gonzalo Fernandez Castano Ev – - Jaidee finished in the Top 50 last week at the U.S. Open.  That’s not too shabby considering who he had to face at Pebble Beach.  Castano is a good golfer with 4 victories on the European Tour.  He’s also the President of GFC Golf and Business meaning that he doesn’t often hit the course.  I’ll go with the “professional” golfer.

           Pick:  Thongchai Jaidee
