Easy NFL Sports Betting Pick is Jets Over Chicago Bears on Dec. 26th
December 25, 2010
One of the easier football betting picks to make this Sunday is on the New York Jets to take down the Chicago Bears.
The Bears looked awfully good this past Monday night when demolishing the rival Minnesota Vikings 40 to 14, but that was Minnesota. On Dec. 26th, the Bears take on a team, the Jets, that have a lot to play for. Chicago’s already wrapped up the NFC North Division while the Jets not only have an outside shot to still win the AFC East but also need to keep pace in the wildcard race.

The trends favor the Jets in this contest.
- The New York Jets are 10 and 3 ATS in their last 13 games on the road.
- The New York Jets are 7 and 0 ATS in their last 7 games on grass.
- The Chicago Bears are 4 and 1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
- The Chicago Bears are 1 and 5 ATS in their last 6 games after scoring more than 30 points in their previous game.
The New York Jets beat a solid football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, this past Sunday straight up as the NFL sports betting dogs through their defense and special teams. Brady Smith ran the opening kickoff back for a TD. Nick Folk hit on 2 field goals and the Jets’ D forced a safety in the 4th quarter. QB Mark Sanchez did run the ball in for a touchdown, but other than that, the Jets didn’t do much on offense…again.
NYJ hasn’t scored more than 1 touchdown in 3 straight games. That’s pathetic, but the truth is that because their defense is so good, and Chicago has such a big flaw on the offensive side of the ball, that the Jets could very well score only a single touchdown and 2 field goals in this game and win 13 to 6. Why am I so sure of it? Because the Jets defensive front 7 is much, much better than Chicago’s offensive line.
Although Chicago has a very good defense, their offensive line is absolutely atrocious. QB Jay Cutler has been sacked 44 times this season. That’s more times than any other QB in the NFL in 2010. The Jets’ D has sacked the QB 35 times this season. That ranks them 5th in the league. The NFL sports betting odds makers still believe that football handicappers will end up backing the Bears in this game, but I can’t do it based on the sack statistics.
If the Bears try to run the ball, things might get worse for them. Chicago rushes for only 99 yards per game, 25th in the NFL. The Jets allow only 92.7 yards per game on the ground. So, the Bears should just forget about trying to run the ball altogether. That would leave Cutler back there to get his head taken off by the Jets’ blitzers.
But that’s not the real reason to back the Jets in the NFL sports betting book to cover the spread in this game. The real reason to go with the Jets is because NYJ has a lot to play for on Dec. 26th. It’s unlikely that New York will win the AFC East Division, but they are tied with Baltimore and Pittsburgh for the wildcard and are only a game ahead of the Chiefs and 2 games ahead of San Diego, Jacksonville and the Colts for a wildcard spot.
NYJ is in a must game on Sunday. The Bears should really consider protecting QB Jay Cutler and working on blocking schemes with that offensive line.
I’ve got to back the New York Jets to beat the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
