Eastern Conference Rundown – Tuesday Basketball Betting Preview
February 10, 2009
Washington Wizards +8.5 over ATLANTA HAWKS
I would be more worried about the Wizards if the Hawks hadn’t lost to the Clippers 121-97. They’re in a serious funk, and certainly marred by the mysterious bruised knee of Al Horford. Has a bruised knee ever taken this long to heal? Seriously? Atlanta still manages 95.3 points per game against, while scoring 100.1 in return but the Wizards are poised to give Atlanta a headache tonight. They may be 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 games, but they are 13-6 SU in their last 19 when playing Atlanta. Bet Washington tonight. It’s well worth it.
Cleveland Cavaliers -6.5 over INDIANA PACERS
Coming off a disappointing loss to the Lakers, who snapped the marvelous home record of the Cavaliers. Cleveland is now 4-1 SU in their last 5 games with a taste of their own blood fueling them in Indiana. The Pacers are just 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games, and Big Z for Cleveland looks tenacious. Without a legitimate front court, the back court combo of Granger-Ford wont’ be enough to combat the onslaught that a vengeful LeBron is about to unleash on the Pacers. Bet Cleveland in the OVER as they embarrass the Pacers in a game that will prove their gumption.
Denver Nuggets +1 over MIAMI HEAT
This is not a great matchup for the Nuggets, but it’s even worse for the Heat. Denver has gone 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games with the return of Melo and the resurgence of Chauncey Billups. While Wade and the Heat have gone 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games at home, there’s no chance of them holding the court with Billups-Melo in town. Miami still is lacking the presence that Jermaine O’Neal will bring to this team when and if he gets traded. Until then, I’d stay away from the Heat, especially when they’re facing one of the best bets in basketball going.
San Antonio Spurs -5 over NEW JERSEY NETS
The Spurs have rocketed to the betting forefront after going 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 games. In that same time, they’ve gone 5-1 SU while matching a fantastic 4-0-1 ATS record in their past 5 road games. Are you scared yet? Everyone may hate the Spurs for their “boring” style of play, but anyone who appreciates basketball knows how lethal this team can be. You’ve been warned, and New Jersey’s dribble-drive offense is going to be dissected by Pop and Duncan with ease as the Spurs roll in the OVER.
CHICAGO BULLS -2.5 over Detroit Pistons
You didn’t think I’d pull for five road teams did you? Chicago’s Derrick Rose has a strong matchup with Allen Iverson tonight. The Pistons are a mess, going 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games, and winning just five games in their last 15 attempts.
Chicago is on a roll right now, going 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 games and while they haven’t played well at home as of late, this is a matchup that Rose is going to embrace. Who wouldn’t love to beat one of their childhood heroes in to the hardwood? I don’t care about the role players in Chicago. Rose is going to destroy AI tonight in another point-man matchup that proves that the only answer Iverson has to give is, “When are you going to retire already?!”
