Eastern Conference NBA Betting Picks – Strange Bucks Host Atlanta Hawks
December 28, 2010
The Milwaukee Bucks are confusing everyone in NBA betting picks this year. Traditionally, no matter how well they’re doing in a season, the Bucks are a strong betting team and this year they were on everyone’s radar because of the combination of Jennings and Bogut.
Now that Jennings is sidelined, everyone thought they’d fall in to the tank, but they’ve ripped off two big wins as they prepare to host the Atlanta Hawks.

The Bucks have gone 2-0 SU and ATS in matchups against the Kings and Lakers (yep – the Lakers) since losing Jennings to a broken foot. Even before that, this was a pretty strong team at home where they’ve gone 4-2 SU in their last 6 games. Stretch that even further and Milwaukee is 3-5-1 ATS in their past 9 games at home.
The presence of Bogut alone is a game changer for Milwaukee. He’s steadied them with 13.8 points per game and 8.4 rebounds in the past five games. Strange as it may sound, he presents a very tough matchup for any team that is centered around the low-post and that includes the Atlanta Hawks.
Atlanta Hawks (19-13) vs. Milwaukee Bucks (12-16)
Monday, December 27th — Bradley Center — 8:00pm EST
NBA Betting Line: Milwaukee -2.0 (179.5)
As good as the Hawks have been this season, they’re not the most reliable bet. Teams tend to ride hot and cold streaks in NBA betting picks, but the Hawks are simply all over the map. The one place they were proficient earlier this season was actually on the road, but recently they’ve gone just 0-5 SU and ATS in their last 5 games away from home.
Atlanta simply hasn’t been as good or consistent of a shooting team as everyone thinks or had hoped. They rank 20th in road scoring at 94.4 points per game, and though Milwaukee seems like a wonky bet at home against a seeming playoff contender, their rebounding is one of the best overall and their defense is ranked second in the NBA when it comes to playing at home.
It may seem counter intuitive, but the number actually trend away from Atlanta so don’t get your night started off badly. Take the Bucks as home favorites in what seems like an illogical NBA betting pick.
NBA Betting Picks’ – Milwaukee -2.0 (UNDER)
Orlando Magic -6.0 over NEW JERSEY NETS
A definitive, come from behind victory for the Magic on Christmas Day against Boston proved that their pair of blockbuster trades is paying off dividends…at least for now. The Magic have plenty to keep proving in an east coast road trip and they won’t let the Nets sneak up on them. Ride the Magic as they’re proving to have the necessary swagger to attract investors in NBA game betting for now.
Detroit Pistons +5.5 over CHARLOTTE BOBCATS
Since losing Larry Brown the Bobcats have spiraled in to hell and an injury to Gerald Wallace certainly doesn’t help with what is already a shallow and fragile roster. The Bobcats are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games and are 1-6 SU during that slide. I don’t usually trust Detroit on the road, since they’re 1-4 ATS in their past 5, but I’ll take them with a cushion over a misguided Charlotte team in NBA betting.
