NFL Odds

New England Patriots -8.5

Over/Under 45.5

That’s right NFL pigskin players, I’m going on record right now to say that the Jets are a near-lock against the Pats when the two teams take to the gridiron at Gillette Stadium on Sunday at 4:30 PM ET.

New York 411

Jets are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games in January.

  • Jets are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 vs. AFC.
  • Jets are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 road games.
  • Jets are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 playoff road games.

New York looked very good defensively in its 17-16 last second win over Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts in their Wild Card matchup on Saturday.

The Jets limited Manning to 18 of 26 passing for 225 yards and just one touchdown strike while simultaneously limiting the Cots to just 99 rushing yards in the win.

New York cashed in against the spread as a 2-point road underdog and now looks like one of the best early NFL playoff picks, based largely on the strength of their powerful rushing attack. Future Hall of Famer, LaDainian Tomlinson rushed 16 times for 92 yards while younger counterpart Shonn Greene added 70 rushing yards on 19 rushes.

New England 411

  • Patriots are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. AFC East.
  • Patriots are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
  • Patriots are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. AFC.
  • Patriots are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 playoff games.
  • Patriots are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 playoff home games.

The Patriots obliterated the Miami Dolphins in their regular season finale on Jan. 8, beating their AFC East division rivals 38-7 to easily cash in as a 1-point home underdog.

The Pats have cashed in against the football betting odds in five of its final six regular season games to maintain their looks as one of the best early NFL playoff picks for the divisional round.

New England also won its final eight regular season games and an incendiary 13 of its final 14 games overall.

Analysis: The Jets and Patriots have split their last 10 showdowns evenly against the spread (5-5 ATS) with New England narrowly getting the best of their AFC East counterparts by posting a 6-4 ATS record over the span.

The good news for gridiron gamblers that like the Pats is the fact that Tom Brady and company have compiled an impressive 7-3 SU record and respectable 5-5 ATS mark in their last 10 home games against New York.

Prediction: If there is one area of concern the Jets may have – and one their betting backers need to know about -  it is the mediocre play of quarterback Mark Sanchez. In New York’s Wild Card win, Sanchez completed just 18 of 31 passes for 189 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.

Prediction: Nevertheless, I am fully committed to backing the Jets in this contest as I fully believe this game is going to be an all-out fight to the finish that is likely decided by somewhere in the neighborhood of three weeks.

The Jets have gone 9-3 against the NFL betting odds in their last dozen games against their AFC counterparts and an impressive 11-4 ATS in their L/15 road games overall.

Believe it or not BetOnline gridiron gamblers, the Patriots have gone 0-5 against the spread (ATS) in their last five playoff games and an even more disconcerting 0-4 ATS in their last four home playoff games.

I like the Jets to keep it close at the very least while pushing the Patriots very hard for the outright win and I believe they are an excellent early NFL playoff pick against the whopping 8.5-point spread.

NFL Picks: New York Jets +8.5 Points
