Dwight Freeney: Will the Colts lose Super Bowl 44 without him at 100%
February 5, 2010
Despite Dwight Freeney is waiting to play on Super Bowl 44 after suffered torn ligament in his right ankle, the smartest thing to do right now is to place your bet like if he is not going to be there.
"Obviously, the competitor in me says ‘nothing is going to stop me,’ but that said, it is not up to me — it is up to the coach and the staff," Frenney said.
Super Bowl 44 Odds:
New Orleans Saints +4.5
Indianapolis Colts -4.5
O/U 56.5
He is the best player on either of the Super Bowl teams, including Darren Sharper.
Can you imagine Robert Mathis pressuring the Drew Brees alone, without the Freeney the double coverage will be focus on him and the passing game becomes easier for Brees.
Colts coach Jim Caldwell insisted Monday that they won’t let the injury affects their game plan for all this week. Caldwell also raised caution on the fact that Freeney is a quick healer, and he has been in a situation like this before.
The Colts are willing to wait until the very last second to make a decision of Freeney’s status, but the biggest issue might be his effectiveness, if he isn’t in game shape will he be a liability?
On the other side, Saints Coach, Sean Payton, said that they are preparing as if the Indianapolis Colts will play with Dwight Freeney on Super Bowl Sunday.
The odds of New Orleans seem to be growing. After Freeney’s lesson, they will be able to open their offensive, what makes a better perspective for next Sunday’s Super Bowl.
For those betting on the Super Bowl need to question how much the Colts will miss Freeney. He set an NFL rookie record in 2002 with 9 forced fumbles. Freeney was the runner up for the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
He also was the 3rd fastest player to get 40 sacks by just his 3rd season in the NFL.
Depending on how effective Freeney is on Sunday will determine who win’s the Super Bowl.
He are some individual career stats for Dwight Freeney:
