Dwayne Wade Rolls into Boston – Heat at Celtics
March 18, 2009
Miami has gone a viscious 5-2 SU in their last 7 games, roaring through the standings to deafening cheers of Wade for “M-V-P!”. As a +1000 candidate in our NBA futures, Wade is certainly making his case known. Boasting a starting roster with two rookies, Udonis Haslem and Jermaine O’Neal isn’t easy times for The Flash, but he’s making the most of it. What the betting backers need to know is if Miami is going to continue its ugly habit of not covering.
The Heat started this road trip on Sunday, losing 85-77 against Philadelphia, and before that they lost to Cleveland 99-89 on the road. Thankfully between those two games, they ripped off three gigantic wins over Utah, Boston and Chicago. The score in the Celtics-Heat game from last week was 107-99, but that was on Wade’s court. Are the former NBA Champions in position for some revenge?
NBA Betting Trends
-Miami is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on the road
-Miami is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 against Boston
-Miami is 1-6 SU in their last 7 games when playing Boston
-Boston is 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games at home
-Boston and Miami push the UNDER in 7 of their last 8 meetings
The main reason that Miami’s betting faithful stand licking their chops is because Paul Pierce might be venturing in to this battle alone. Kevin Garnett, the reigning defensive champion, is still out and now Ray Allen is nursing a hyper extended elbow. That accommodates for nearly 30+ points for the Celtics. Who can fill them?
And without Garnett, are Big Baby and Perkins going to be enough? Will Leon Powe be a surging starter, like he is off the bench? What the F is Stephon Marbury doing anyways? You see, with too many lingering questions for the C’s, the nod in this one from a betting standpoint goes to the team with all the momentum.
Miami Heat (36-30) vs. Boston Celtics (50-18)
Wednesday, March 18th — TD Banknorth Garden, Boston — 7:00pm EST
NBA Line: Boston -4.5 (191.5)
The line is shrinking against Boston meaning that both the oddsmakers and betting community are assured that this game can go in Miami’s favor. I say you take the bet, and take the OVER as Pierce finds motivation for a big game in the face of Wade. Like the last few games for the Heat, however, it’ll be Wade who gets the last laugh.
NBA Free Pick: Miami +4.5 OVER
