Duke Blue Devils host Maryland Terrapins – Blowout Alert

January 23, 2009

The Duke Blue Devils are back where they have been so often in the past, at the top of the college basketball rankings. Okay, they aren’t ranked number one but they’ve played well enough to garner some first place votes. Sports betting fans have to love how Coach K, coming off of a summer time victory in the Olympics with NBA stars, has turned what was a sort of okay ACC team into one of the best teams in the nation. It all starts with Kyle Sigler who is just terrific in every phase of the game. The Blue Devils are currently 17 and 1 straight-up. Their record against the BetOnline online betting spread is 9-7-1. As always, they are ultra-tough at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The Terps haven’t been one of the top teams in the nation in a few years but Coach Gary Williams is still one of the best in the business. Maryland should make the NCAA Tournament again but will they be as good as they have been in the past? Their record of 13 and 5 says that they are a decent team and their against the spread record of 6-4-2 is a winning one but they’ve already lost to Morgan State, Florida State and Miami Florida. None of those teams are close to Duke.

Here are my personal online betting odds for this game.

Maryland Terrapins +14 ½ -110

Duke Blue Devils -14 ½ -110

Here are a few online wagering trends that might help us find a good online bet in this game.

The Maryland Terrapins are 2 and 5 against the spread in their last 7 games against an ACC opponent.

The Maryland Terrapins are 4 and 1 against the spread in their last 5 games on the road.

The Duke Blue Devils are 4-9-1 against the spread in their last 14 games against an ACC opponent.

The Duke Blue Devils are 4 and 1 against the spread in their last 5 games after an against the spread loss.

The Dookies are just a solid all around team. I wouldn’t go past making an online bet on this team to win the NCAA Tournament outright.

The BetOnline odds makers will have to make the Duke Blue Devils huge favorites in this, there’s no way around that, but Maryland might have the goods to keep this thing close.

Now, I’m not saying one or two points close but close enough to maybe beat the BetOnline online sportsbook basketball betting spread.

It depends on the line, of course. I love Duke. I think they have a shot at the title, but if the BetOnline odds makers set a line at +14 ½ or more than I have to go with Maryland to beat the spread.

If the BetOnline online sportsbook against the spread line is Duke -14 or less, than I will make an online bet on Duke to cover the spread.
