Double-Digit Football Odds Fave Georgia Looks to Punish Tennessee

October 9, 2010

The -11 football betting odds favorite Georgia Bulldogs will look to punish the Tennessee Volunteers this Saturday, Oct. 9th.

Georgia hasn’t had the best luck against the spread so far in 2010. The usually football odds against the spread reliable Bulldogs have gone 1 and 4 ATS this season. The Bulldogs have lost both straight up and ATS in their last 4 games after trouncing Louisiana-Lafayette 55 to 7 as 28 ½ point favorites in Week 1.

Tennessee Volunteers +11 -110

Georgia Bulldogs -11 -110

According to the trends the football odds prediction in this game should be on Tennessee to cover the spread.

  • The Tennessee Volunteers are 8 and 2 ATS in their last 10 games as an underdog of 10 ½ points or greater.
  • The Tennessee Volunteers are 4 and 0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
  • The Georgia Bulldogs are 2 and 8 ATS versus a team with a losing record.
  • The Georgia Bulldogs are 4 and 11 ATS in their last 15 games at home.

I wish handicapping this game was as easy as simply looking at the trends and then picking the Volunteers to cover the football expert odds, but that’s not the case.

Tennessee has been just as bad as Georgia so far in 2010. The Vols have covered in 2 out of 5 games so far this season and are coming off of a 2-point loss to the LSU Tigers, 14 to 16, as 16 ½ point dogs.

But the Vols also needed to pull everything out of themselves in order to beat UAB straight up 32 to 29 as 14-point favorites just a couple of weeks ago.

To me, that’s a telling sign that Tennessee just isn’t a very stout football team. Now, they have to face the Bulldogs possibly without two guards, JerQuari Schofield and Cody Pope. Luckily for them, Georgia Bulldogs LB Richard Samuel is questionable for this Saturday’s game. So injuries really aren’t an issue in this game.

This is actually an easy game to call for me. I don’t see much difference between either one of these teams. To me, a bet on Georgia makes absolutely no sense because the football odds handicapping spread is grossly in favor of them. Both teams have suspect offenses and terrible defenses.

Both teams are playing well below expectations but have the ability to turn it on and come up with a brilliant effort once in while. Both teams are in terrible disarray.

The stats are eerily similar between these two teams. Georgia’s offense racks up 363 yards per game. Its defense allows 324 yards per game. Tennessee’s offense amasses 324 yards per game. Its defense allows 376 yards per game. There’s only around a 40 to 50 yard difference in Georgia’s favor.

How the heck does that equate to -11 football game odds? I don’t think it does. Although this game can go either way, Tennessee at least played with a lot of heart last week in their defeat to LSU. Georgia fell down like a dead dog, not a Bulldog, versus the horrible Colorado Buffaloes in a 27 to 29 loss as 4 ½ point road favorites.

I have to take the points in this game. The trends tell me to and, more importantly, the point spread is at a double-digit number.

My football odds free pick in this game is on Tennessee to cover as +11 point dogs in the sportsbook.
