Don’t Shy Away From Jets Against Dolphins in NFL Picks
December 11, 2010
After being buried by the Patriots in NFL picks last weekend, the New York Jets have also tried to bury something of their own as they prep for another divisional matchup against the Miami Dolphins. Despite the loss last weekend, Rex Ryan continues to make headlines, this time by literally digging a grave a game ball from the game against New England.
Call it a motivating tactic. Call it voodoo. I call it stupid. The Jets still have plenty to prove in NFL picks to their betting investors and a loss to the Dolphins would all but anoint them as overhyped trash talkers instead of legitimate Super Bowl contenders.
Don’t hit the panic button on the Jets just yet. They’re still an unbelievably loaded team from a talent standpoint, and that’s on both sides of the ball. Anyone who’s crazy enough to think Miami can test their strength in NFL picks is dreaming. The Jets are 10-3-1 ATS when playing the Dolphins.

Miami Dolphins (6-6) vs. New York Jets (9-3)
Sunday, December 12th — Meadowlands Stadium — 4:15pm EST
NFL Betting Line: NYJ -5.5 (40.5)
I really can’t get a read on this Miami team. A lot of their numbers are confusing, like the fact that they’re ranked just 18th in the NFL with 106.6 rushing yards per game. What happened to the Wildcat offense? What happened to Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams?
There’s no real answer, but the arrival of Brandon Marshall and the supposed ascension of Chad Henne might have had something to do with it. The Dolphins unwittingly tried to turn in to a passing team before Henne was truly ready, but I can’t really fault them. I had high hopes for Henne and the Dolphins in NFL picks this season too. Miami has been a decent road team, averaging 19.5 points per game while going 5-1 SU away from South Beach.
I’ve had issues with the Jets as well. It’s obvious that they can’t play from behind very well. I’m not sure if making NFL picks on Mark Sanchez’s inexperience in cold weather is a smart idea. However, I still think the Jets can be an undersold team on some level. People such as myself have waited for the bubble to burst on New York and after the loss to New England, it’s safe to say that it has.
How they respond is paramount.
No metric I provide can tell you just how pissed the Jets are after being embarrassed by New England in a game everybody saw. They’ll wipe the floor with a mis-coached Miami team that has no clear identity so play the Jets in your NFL picks however way you want because this game won’t even be close.
Furious NFL Picks: NYJ -5.5 (UNDER)
