Do the Colts or Saints have the edge in Super Bowl 44

February 6, 2010

Strengths and weaknesses

I know you have herd, read and seen every angle of this game but before you place you bet let me give you some superbowl betting ideas about how the strengths and the weaknesses of every teams can match each other and how will affect the game.

Indianapolis Colts 9/19 to win the Super Bowl

Strengths: Everyone knows Peyton Manning is the best player for the Colts, whatever he does will affect the job of the rest of the team, either good or bad.

Manning has the ability of winning ball games by himself, he probably already knows every tendency about the Saints defense and is looking to new ways to make them pay.

Another strength about the Colts attach to Manning are the receivers and I’m not talking about the well known Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark who obviously are an advantage; but I’m talking about Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie.

Collie has been money in the bank when he is in a slot position line against a linebacker, which is something the Saints need to avoid, because Manning and Collie will make them pay.

On defense, Robert Mathis will be the guy who need to worry the Saints defensive line considering Dwight Freeney might not be fully recover.

If Mathis can beat the Saints protection line then he can make some turnovers that will definitely help the Colts in the game. Don’t forget about Gary Brackett or Antoine Bethea, both are playmakers that need to step up if Freeney can make it on Sunday.

Another strong point about Indy is the experience, something that you can’t buy in the market. Many of them have been here before and they also know how to win the Super Bowl, which is a big plus.

Weakness: The Colts’ biggest disadvantage is their running game; they were the worst team of the league in the regular season and haven’t done much better in the playoffs either.

Joseph Addai need to make a statement on Sunday, kind of the one Adrian Peterson made in the NFC championship game when he was playing poorly the weeks before. Of course, you have to realize Addai has better hands than AP but he can’t run the ball as well.

Also, I know Jim Caldwell said they are getting prepare if Dwight Freeney can’t play on Sunday but there is no defensive scheme that could replace the best pass rusher in the team and arguably in the NFL.

The lost of Freeney on defense make the Colts weaker in every aspect of the game. If you think about it, with Freeney out Robert Mathis will get the double coverage and the pass rushing will not be the same at all.

That will give Drew Brees more time to find open receivers and make the Indianapolis Colts pay against one of the best passing teams in the NFL.

New Orleans Saints 17/10 to win the Super Bowl

Strengths: Drew Brees plus the rest of that offense is the best the Saints have. They were the NFL leading scoring team in the season averaging 31.9 pts per game and 38 points in the two NFC playoffs games.

They are creative and don’t fall into a tendency of making the same plays over and over. NFL betting fans must see Sean Peyton as an incredible play caller always looking to burn opposite defenses.

Another thing is I don’t think there is a set of playmakers on defense like the ones the Saints have right now. They recorded 39 takeaways in the regular season, the most by any team in the NFL and they forced the Viking to commits 5 turnovers in the NFC championship game.

I know the Colts offense will be prepare for them but any given play they can strip Manning or any other player that is carrying the ball.

Most importantly, the Saints have something the Colts don’t and that is a lot of hunger. Don’t get me wrong, Indy has it too but since they were here three years ago they have experience card playing on their side too.

Brees is already in his 9 th season and this is his first Super Bowl appearance, this could tell him and the rest of the Saints how difficult is to get here.

Weaknesses: the inexperience of most of the team of not being here before might get them too excited; this might probably make them to commits turnovers.

Also despite the Saints knows how to make turnovers they need to get to Peyton Manning early in the game, because if they don’t he will make they pay in any coverage. The New Orleans defense might not match the best against Manning passing offense.
